How can we improve Proton Mail?

  1. Removing accounts after some time of inactivity and Recycling usernames are bad ideas.

    Email is not only a communication tool, but probably more importantly an internet identity. People use their email to open accounts on websites. If an email address is deleted and reused by another user, then all personal data bonded with that email address is lost and at risk.
    As I know gmail doesn't recycle email addresses. That's a considerate idea.

  2. ProtonMail Bridge for Linux

    I don't have a Windows or OSX machine, so ProtonMail Bridge doesn't appear to be an option for me. Is there any way Bridge for Linux could happen? The site says it's coming soon, but when is soon?

    I'd like to see a dark mode for the email UI, both app and for the browser. Goes a long way as a quality of life feature.

  6. Support multiple accounts on iOS

    Either allow multiple accounts to be open simultaneously in the iOS app or add option to switch between accounts without having to formally log out and log in between each swap.

    Despite allowing multiple aliases for a single account, if you have a personal account but also shared an account (eg with a spouse) aliases don’t suffice. The idea of forwarding every email from one account to another is archaic, lose for user and lose for proton mail because you’ll be storing the same message twice unnecessarily.

    Multiple account support is a basic feature for email apps.

  7. Contact Groups

    We need to be able to group contacts, with the option to send mail to specific groups. The ability to add a group to the TO: field is a must as well, there is no way to add multiple contacts at the moment. This is a necessary feature that I have seen in every email service I have used.

  8. Hide 'Spam' and 'Trash' from 'All Mail' folder.

    Currently the All Mail folder displays trashed and spam emails. Since this is a good folder for getting good overview of all mails (including those in potentially many folders) some users (like me) use it a lot. It can be very disconcerting to see trash and spam in there, and defeats the purpose of spam and trash.

    Thanks to your collective feedback, Spam and Trash emails are now excluded from the All Mail folder. You can control this behavior from Settings > Messages and composing > Exclude Spam/Trash from All mail.

  10. shorten protonmail to pmail

    Just like when Google started with the Gmail service, back then it was @googlemail, which is not so good compared with the short @gmail name.
    What if ProtonMail stars something like "@pmail.com"?

  11. Add ability to run newly created filters against existing mail

    Can you please make it so we can run newly created filters against existing mail? Ideally based off the same criteria we can search on, applied retroactively.

    'll be ability in future to send email in plain text as an option.Some mailing lists require plain text so this would be very usefull.

    I'm using ProtonMail due to security concerns, and therefore I do not have Google Services installed on my device.

    Please provide the ProtonMail Android APK as direct download on your homepage.

  19. 4096 bit RSA keys instead of 2048 bit

    Currently, 2048 bit PGP keys are used to encrypt emails. While this is secure now, it won't be in the future. 1024 bit keys are already considered within the range of being breakable. Someday, probably within the next 10 years as technology advances, 2048 bit keys will also become breakable. When this happens, adversaries will be able to decrypt everything. Some adversaries save encrypted copies of all messages, waiting for the day they'll be able to break keys so they can go back and decrypt messages from the past.   20. aliases

    To top off the security of Proton Mail it great to be able to generate email aliases.

    This would allow Proton Mail users to log in to each website/service online with a different email address.

    This would increase online anonymity and reduce the chance of a Proton Mail user getting hacked.

    Detailed Description:

    When a user wants a new alias they click 'new alias' and a new email is generated that always forwards to the user's main email.

    e.x. 1b1f6253-a280-43e2-95e2-043e82dae3e7@protonmail.com

    Then a user can label that email so they can keep track of what it is used for.
