Auto delete emails after x days (in inbox and other folders)
Auto delete after x days.....
1) from a Information control point of view, it could be useful to have a maximum life of all mails before being auto deleted;
2) For long term use the space is limited and may fill up, especially if used with large attachments.
Being able to auto-delete emails after x days would help ensure that it does not fill up.
The number of days must be customisable per account as one size will not fit all!

Flag incoming messages to self-destruct with a Filter.
I get a lot of transient notification emails (pickup order is ready, package shipped, etc) that I don't need to keep around forever. I currently go through every so often and clean these out, but it takes time and is kind of a pain.
Adding an action to Filters to set the self-destruct behavior would let me flag senders/subjects and automatically set those to expire after a period of time.

Ability to filter from certain senders to auto delete or send to trash folder after a predetermined time.

I have a script running on my Gmail that keeps it nice and clean, I really need that functionality with Proton! Besides simply 'delete after x days' I can choose to archive, move to a specific folder, add label, etc based on age, read/unread, starred, etc.

I strongly support this idea! Plus: I would like to set a maximum life for emails in a certain folder (for example the trash folder), so that I don't have to bother every day, emptying my trash.

I DEFINITELY WANT THIS FEATURE! I like getting newsletters and updates but don't always have time to read them. So I filter them to folders, but then I only want to keep the L90 days worth. Currently I have to manually delete old emails. It'd be nice to have the option in a filter to delete after 30, 60, 90 days. PLEASE ADD THIS!

The sieve filters can mark something for deletion (I do that with social media and news emails) but once tagged it is irrevocable. It would be nice to either be able to set a delete policy on a folder or allow a scheduled deletion I created to be removed.

This would be extremely useful to have for compliance-related reasons.

Giving this one a +3. GMail does this by default, it would be nice to have this option in Proton.

Would like to be able to have a setting on folders that automatically send emails to trash after X number of days. For newsletters or other emails, I don't need to keep after say 30 days but don't want to have to delete manually every day.

It would be Nice, Tutanota Auto Deletes e-mail around every few months, they say every month but that is a lie a caught them, and they explained it to me and I was still happy about that feature, I wished Proton would do some thing Similar.

I've seen similar requests to apply filters to existing emails, but the difference is that this feature would enable an automatic filter.
Currently when we create a filter, we can combine multiple search criteria such as "from address" or "subject contains." I am suggesting that "age" be added as a new criteria, so it applies to emails that were received over a certain number of days ago. This of course means that filters would have to apply to existing emails, not just incoming ones.
So ideally, this would create a "live" filter that would automatically be watching existing emails and performing actions. For example, we could create a filter that would automatically delete any email that has a subject containing "alert" and that is over 7 days old. Or it could be used to automatically delete trashed emails over 30 days old, like Gmail does now.
Thank you, Proton Team!!

It would be great to have an option allowing to program the deletion of a mail after a certain period of time.
For instance, I receive a confirmation mail for an appointment with a link to cancel it, I can say "delete this message in 6 weeks" (i.e. after said appointment).
This would help to keep our mailboxes clean. At least a single option like "delete this mail in 3 months" would do the job.

There should be an option to automatically delete older emails to free up mail box space when it's getting full rather than have to manually delete who knows how many older emails to get more space.

I have folders into which the myriad not-quite-spam announcements, subscription distributions, etc are automatically sent. These have a relatively short lifespan during which they might be of interest and I'd like to be able to limit the length of time they remain in the folder with the ability to set an automatic delete when a message reaches that pioint (say 1-2 months). Is that possible?
Two years later... I have had to learn how to use sieve scripting to accomplish what it seems to me should be a default option on custom folders and labels: expiration of folder content or labelled item at some set interval after arrival. Now that I have some (rudimentary) grasp of sieve (requiring time I really don't have), I am even more convinced that adding this feature would be easily managed by the Proton Tech team. If there is a good reason not to offer it, would appreciate hearing what that is.

I have an idea for a new filter/label feature. I subscribe to a lot of newsletters. After about a week or so, many of the news topics are out of date so I don't read them if I've missed a few of the issues. I'd love a feature that would allow me to set certain senders' emails to auto-delete after a few days or weeks. I am trying to keep my inbox under control. This would also be useful for promotional emails from sellers. After a few days, the coupon codes and sales are over and I have no need for the emails.

I'd like this plus being able to specify it as a rule for certain folders / tags. For example I route all receipts from the tools trucks to a certain folder, I'd like to delete anything in that folder older than 90 days. I also route all advertising / promotional offers to a folder, same deal but for 30 days. I don't expect my examples to translate to everyone, I just hope it shows how it would be a useful feature.
