Auto delete emails after x days (in inbox and other folders)
Auto delete after x days.....
1) from a Information control point of view, it could be useful to have a maximum life of all mails before being auto deleted;
2) For long term use the space is limited and may fill up, especially if used with large attachments.
Being able to auto-delete emails after x days would help ensure that it does not fill up.
The number of days must be customisable per account as one size will not fit all!

I often get an email informing me about, e.g. a package that's on its way, which I'd like to keep for another week or so, but then I'd delete it. It would be handy if upon reading the email (or it going through a filter), I could set an auto-delete-date or auto-archive-date for that particular email, so I don't have to touch it twice.
For this, any date in the email body should be clickable, or at least I should be able to quickly copy paste a date in any format into the proposed auto-delete-date box.

I would like the possibility to make a filter (sender, object, etc...) to delete mail after X parametrable days for each filter

I would like to auto-delete e-mails older than a specific time (for example 3 months), when specific filters are applied (they were sent to my newsletter address for example, or only those sent from Amazon, etc.)

Such functionality is undispensable.
Would be even better with the option to set the time for each folder independently -

This would be extremely usefull and I agree with Larry Fahnoe : It would be good to add it to the folder attributes.

The ability to auto delete mail would be extremely useful and a worthwhile addition to ProtonMail. I would suggest that this be implemented as a folder attribute such that any mail in the folder older than X days would be deleted by the ProtonMail server. With this relatively simple addition ProtonMail would empower its users to be better stewards of their ever-expanding mailboxes and free up storage space.
While the Sieve expires mechanism exists, it is not convenient for normal users and it is cumbersome to have to add the same expires clause to each filter filing messages into a single folder. Far better to be able to say that all mail in this folder is deleted after X days.
Having the auto delete or expires setting on a folder also solves the problem of cleaning up old mail that was manually moved into the folder.

This is normal data sanitation. many providers do not offer this do to reading old we know you do not but it would be nice if you did this to prevent the rubber hose method of hacking

Why isn't protonmail offering this to us?

It'd be great to have such a feature also as an option for particular folders.
Like, delete every message in folder X after 30 days (ideally being able to set it to either 30 days from having been received, or 30 days from having been added to said folder). -

I would also like to see this especially for the Trash folder. I would like the option to auto delete emails of a certain age in the Trash folder.

Not a perfect solution, but you can customize any filter using their filtering language, Sieve.
https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/sieve-advanced-custom-filtersGo to the section of the page called "Managing expiration" and there are examples there for how to delete emails after a set number of days.

I would love an option to auto-delete after a specified number of days. This would be a highly valuable feature to me.

Agreed. I'd be nice to auto-delete specific emails based on a date (or set a rule based on a tag as mentioned below.).
An example would be that I can set the date after I take a flight to delete its confirmation email, since it's no longer relevant after that.
I am an aggressive email deleter and periodically cull my archive. It'd be nice to be able to automate that.

that you rock if they did that, I am quite surprised it is not done, Proton is high on security, why not add this so it make things even tighter. I would also be nice if people could add addresses so they by pass and are auto deleted. Tutanota Already does it for spam why not do it for all spam and trash.

Hi, you can see this suggestion here: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/284483-feedback/suggestions/7158399-auto-delete-for-trash-folder

hi there, yes I'd love to auto delete email based on filters, like newsletters, like they are relevant for a month and then I give no fucks and they are taking up space and I don't want to spend the time cleaning my inbox when I could basically set a filter. The filter could work the exact same way as the labeling filter currently in place.

How about a AutoDelete feature for specific folders that deletes emails after a user defined amount of time, could be Hours-Days...This could be different for different folders like, sent emails-drafts etc.

love the idea

Set a time for each folder (X days) after which emails in this folder are deleted automatically. Extremely helpful for the "Newsletters"-folder.

This is a feature I would use on most of my emails.
