Sync contacts with phone address book
Sync the Protonmail contacts with the phone address book (contacts app) and vice versa.

Suggestion: just sync names and email addresses.
We don't need everything else matched up... The outfits that claim that they're syncing often either don't understand the idea (they do one-way only) or are just doing a fraction of the job (tags, notes, etc., often don't get synced). It's better to treat each as a master copy and sync only the things that are critical for your app. You only need email address & names (and maybe company and title) lined up to be able to send email.

Trying to finally dump Google and am 90% of the way there, but this is a deal breaker! I am not going go into protonmail app on Android in order to make a phone call. There is no reason to not provide a simple sync back and forth to Android contacts.

In general I don't like the idea of Proton interfacing with other data grabbing entities, but this would be a great feature if it could be done with privacy and security.

I switched from gmail to protonmail. Since I still use google contacts to make phone calls, I would love to see proton mail sync automatically from google contacts so I need only update one of them. Or, better yet, let me set protonmail to use google contacts for email, which would achieve the same result.

5 years later and still nothing?

This feature request dates from 2017 and is planned since 2019, an Update or delivery date would be highly appreciated, it's 2024!

It is absolutely critical that Contacts integrate with my Android phone somehow - not having this made my move from Google to Proton pretty much useless since my Android phone contacts came from Google and removing that account meant no more contacts in my phone. I did back them up to Proton but what good are they if I cannot use them conveniently?

Proton Contacts is needed! Include call and chat is too much?

This has been a feature request since december 2017. Plannend since january 2019. It is now february 2024. It's insane this basic and much requested feature has not yet been implemented. Sorry for my frustration, but tt really is the biggest disadvantage to Proton Mail. And of course, make it opt-in for those that do not want it, but I'm more than happy to give up a little security for this feature. The fact that Tuta now offers this feature, makes it an attractive alternative.

Proton’s closest competitor Tuta has now added this feature to their service. Maybe that’ll get things moving at Proton as they often are neck and neck when it comes to features.

For those in the comments that don’t want this feature. Why are you worried that this will be enabled by default or mandatory? Proton and Tuta has (basically) the same view on privacy, so I expect that the feature will be opt-in in Proton, just as it is in Tuta.

I don't want my contacts in other systems, only proton. If you build it, then make it optional.

Yes, syncing would be a good start.
It would be even better if the Proton contacts "App" could replace the Google address book and supply the dialler, K9 on the phone and Thunderbird on PCs - and everyone else's favourite mail and phone apps too presumably.
I could adopt a lot more of the Proton system if that worked. Maintaining just one list of contacts for everything ( and then just one calendar) would be lovely. I note other people worrying about harvesting of data below - I just don't use those apps! -

I need the sync between Protonmail Contacts and deh mobile device (Android) phonebook to see the contacts in the call history (otherwise only number is shown). Also needed for use of WhatsApp.
This unimplemented function is currently preventing me to move from Microsoft to Proton.

I would love an update on this desperately needed feature. "Planned" doesn't inspire much confidence when there has been no word for several years.
