I would love an update on this desperately needed feature. "Planned" doesn't inspire much confidence when there has been no word for several years.

As this has been planned for several years, is there an update on this feature?
The ability to sync my contacts is really important, and it's very unproductive to not have this feature.

Just going to throw in my two cents here. This feature is a show-stopper. Contact integration with devices is desperately needed for Proton to be a viable ecostystem for everyday use, even if it means keeping contacts decrypted on the user's device to allow the OS to access them.
Even if Proton kept contacts unencrypted on the user's device, being able to sync contacts to Proton's servers instead of relying of Google or iCloud to sync contacts would still be an overall improvement to security and privacy. For most people, in order to use basic phone functionality like texting and caller ID, one has to save their contact info unencrypted on their device anyway, one way or another. If Proton offered unencrypted contact syncing, at WORST the user's data would be no more vulnerable than it was before, BUT now it's at least taken off of Big Tech servers, and users would have a smoother experience to make their life a little easier when using Proton.
If I could put all 10 of my votes here, I would, without hesitation. There are so many features I want for Proton, but all of them are lightyears behind this in importance. In my personal, humble opinion, this feature should be Proton's number 1 priority across ALL of their services.

Without contact sync with phone address book I'm forced to main two contact lists and keep them sync manually!
However, to maintain some privacy, the user should choose which contact details to share (just name and phone number, maybe)

Just wanted to highlight that this feature is important for a lot of users out there: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/teuat4/how_to_use_proton_contacts_on_android_phone/

Ability to NOT sync contacts with Address Book. I do not want my Proton Contacts to feed into the Contacts in my Phone Contacts which would essentially make everyone's Contacts public information to EVERY data harvesting app and feed the Google/Apple/Facebook anti-priivacy BEAST. So apps require access to Contacts to work and i dont want my Contacts being sucked into the ether either DIRECTLY (myself) or INDIRECTLY through being in SOMEONE ELSE's CONTACTS.
So opening up Proton Contacts to this PERVERSION is a prima facie ridiculous idea degrading the privacy of ALL proton users.
INSTEAD, It makes more sense for Proton Contacts to remain PRIVATE and operate in parallel with information available ONLY to User without any spill over into the world of the DATA HOARDERS.
As a Matter in fact, each USER should be able to control propagation of own CONTACT details in other Proton Contacts lists to disallow mindless propagation of own contact details via the poor logic and decisions of other ignorant Proton Users.

This will be show stopper for me when it's time for me to renew. No sync with address book then no renewing.
A better spell checker would be nice too but not essential.

Created in 2017, planned since 2019, we are in 2023 and this critical feature request is still pending.

- Because I find myself maintaining my contact list into another cloud email (that I dream to dump).
- At contact level, we should be able to set a status "syncable outside Proton". This cornerstone status would bring the balance between privacy for some contacts and usability for the others. -

I'm leaving Protonmail right now for this reason. I want to manage my contacts properly, not get an entire list without favorites, in a small sidebar. Proton can expect me back as a customer only once they give a proper interface for contact management à la Outlook and Google Contacts.

Proton, you're great but it's really hard to understand why this feature hasn't been one of the main priorities? It is ranked very high here and of all these Uservoice fora, this seems like a key strategic issue. It's not just about improving the user experience, this is a multiple-times-per-day need that actively prevents people from fully switching to your services. It maybe doesn't seem as big as some of the other apps that have been launched since this was planned but in some ways it's a more important step to accomplish.

New to Proton and would really like to see this feature added.

This is the only feature holding me up within the gmail environment.
A good compromise between privacy and usability would be some sync rules / exception management on contact level or field level. -

Hello. I am also a paying customer of ProtonMail. I would very much like to see this feature added above all else. I know that these contacts will not be private, but it will help us get away from Google. Thank you.

I will switch to Proton Mail if this feature is implemented in the near future.
