Hide 'Spam' and 'Trash' from 'All Mail' folder.
Currently the All Mail folder displays trashed and spam emails. Since this is a good folder for getting good overview of all mails (including those in potentially many folders) some users (like me) use it a lot. It can be very disconcerting to see trash and spam in there, and defeats the purpose of spam and trash.
Thanks to your collective feedback, Spam and Trash emails are now excluded from the All Mail folder. You can control this behavior from Settings > Messages and composing > Exclude Spam/Trash from All mail.

All Mail area already has "All", "Read", and "Unread" filters. Make it hide spam/trash by default, and add an "Include Spam/Trash" filter next to these to reveal the hidden messages.

This is listed as under review. Can we get an update please? This is a critical feature that needs to be implemented. I just want to see legitimate mail in the "All Mail" folder, not spam and trash.

I use the "all mails" folder to see all emails coming into all of my other folders. Seeing it full of spam and trash emails all of the time is sooooooooooooooooooo annoying. Please fix this soon...
I'm a paid user of protonmail, but this issue not being handled for years now, really makes me start to question wether I need to move to another mail provider.

Please, please, please.
Excluding trash/spam from All Mail, as many users said, is a no-brainer.
This is the way all mail services I know of work.
I understand that Protonmail has made this product decision and now it's not easy to revert it, but you know what? Users, in most of the cases, don't care about your product decisions. They care of having something usable that meets their expectations.
If GMail, Outlook and all the popular services out there work this way, and Proton works differently, then it's a bug, not a feature.
If your provide an IMAP/SMTP bridge, but that bridge basically breaks *ALL* the IMAP/SMTP clients that I've tested it with (and I've tested it with mutt, neomutt, Thunderbird, aerc, Nextcloud Mail, K-9 and Rainloop) because messages can't be deleted from "All Mail" (or when they are deleted they just pop back), then your bridge is buggy.
Please stop ignoring our requests.
There are 786 votes on this request, and it's been first posted >4 years ago.
There are 80 comments from people all asking the same things.
There are two Github issues (https://github.com/ProtonMail/proton-bridge/issues/63 and https://github.com/ProtonMail/proton-bridge/issues/62).
If so many people are confused by the current approach, will you at least take into consideration the fact that your approach may be wrong (or, at the very least, confusing) and it needs to be revised?
If you really can't get rid of the All Mail folder because a lot has been built against the way it currently functions, why not provide something like an "All Undeleted Email" folder that implements exactly what we're all asking? It wouldn't break the current All Mail logic, and users whose flow is broken by the current implementation can just use the new folder.
What's the problem with this? Why wait years and years without even bothering to take our opinions into account?
I have used Protonmail as a paid user for a while now, but I'm really tired of adapting my habits to a broken flow. Deleting emails doesn't even work as intended from aerc and Rainloop because of this. If this BUG is not addressed with high priority, I'll just migrate to Tutanota.

Or add an All Mail EXCEPT spam and trash folder/view

Please implement this! I manage multiple email addresses and have the same situation as OP. Right now the only work around is to delete my trash and spam multiple times a day which is a huge hassle.

AllMail folder is useless when there is already Archive Folder... I would like to have it removed completely

I agree with this one. I spend most of the time in the all folders too, So this is a critical feature IMO

All Mail folder now shows everything including Spam. It shouldn't show spam. Or at least this should be optional and default-off

I'm new to Proton Mail. Previously used Thunderbird and when I trashed something it went to Trash. When I emptied Trash, it disappeared. Simple. Never had a problem with this. Find the Proton Mail system of All Mail & Trash, which I have yet to fully understand, perplexing, inconvenient and inefficient. Get rid of All Mail. At least subordinate it to Trash.

I agree with this request. I spend most of my time viewing the "All Mail" group and have often deleted an e-mail which was already in the Trash folder. Here's a feature request within a coment: I think the three voting options are not granular enough. While I agree with this suggestion, in my mind, it does not rise to the "Important" level. Perhaps am "Agree" button could be added?

Note: Please also remove an archived email from the All Mail list. Let me keep All Mail clean and focused. What’s the point of Archive if it’s still in All Mail?
If the UX team has to spin circles to justify a UX scenario, it’s probably not good UX.
If I have to open the Trash folder and manually delete them (3+ clicks = user effort that shouldn’t be necessary to remove trashed emails from All Mail view) then they should disappear upon deletion.
To go through these manual steps and STILL see the trashed emails in All Mail is very irritating and disrespectful to the user experience.

YES. I use "All Mail" for just about everything. Showing trash is a major waste of my time.

I completely agree with the original post.
It is SUPER annoying, that "all mail" (that I use to simultaneously look at incoming mails from several accounts that get put into several folders) always show trash and spam mails as well.

It would be very helpful to have an on/off setting to exclude trash and spam from All Mail.

I have asked for this several times - it should be our choice and does not threaten a robust approach to dealing with email.
I turned on the spam filter to send most to trash and now see that over 85% of what I get every day is spam! Please show us how to avoid seeing that in the AllMail view!! I also need help with bulk delete of spam and trash. -

This is a very good improvement!

This thread has been open since June of 2021. Where are the developers?!?
Please listen to your customers and add toggles to allow users to toggle on/off Spam and Trash from being included in All Mail.
Stop ignoring us, ProtonMail!

I agree with many others here that I don't want Spam and Trash included when I look in or search All Mail. However, given that (apparently) somebody thought including them in All Mail was a good idea, at least include an option for users to choose whether they're included or not. That way you make everybody happy.

I just signed up for ProtonMail, paid plan. Already looking to hide the spam folder and organize the list because seeing spam folder with new mail notification is very distracting. Would be great to organize the folder menu.
