Seeing attachment preview in both desktop and mobile app is the majour reason why I do not have subscription yet.
!) It's not comfortable sending attachment without visual confirmation.
2) Especially when roaming, I do not want to download every pictures to find out what they are. -

I second people's gripes about this basic functionality taking so long. Assign a programmer to it and it's done in just a few hours! Perhaps we should make a webextention and do it ourselves? Any takers?

I would like the ability to preview an attachment paper or image before downloading it to my PC. It be possible for the email to act as the download space prior to moving it to a PC. This way, we can see what people are sending us before we actually download it.

New ProtonMail user here. I see it has been three and a half years (!) and counting now that very basic functionality like viewing PDFs has not made it past "Planned" status. Is this typical of the ProtonMail development cycle I should expect? Seriously re-thinking my subscription now...it's a PDF...I just need to view it once and be done. Why do you make me download just to view it? What a hassle...

Any updates about this feature? Planned since more than 3 years now... Thanks.

Absolutely! I just started with ProtonMail and this is a must. Why do I have to download the attachment to see it? In my specific case, I get quite a lot of emails from my DVR. Cameras take pictures by sensor motion and they get emailed to me. I know what the attachment is, I just want to preview it, not download it.
Thanks. -

Should be able to preview the attachments inside email, without downloading them.

I am particular to images. I'd like upon receipt for the images to be thumbnailed. The client should (by configuration) automatically fetch and display the thumbnails. When I really want the entire image, I should be able to tell the client to download.
I don't want any 'smarts' in the thumbnailing process, like gmail does. They crop on the face, but sometimes that is not the salient part of a picture, or not the only one.

(this is marked as "PLANNED", dated Aug 30, 2015. Does anything get out of the planning stage?)

Why must I save an attachment before doing something with it? Opening a PDF (attachment) directly from the new InBox email would be so much quicker.

I would like to have the option on the desktop to view the attachment right then and there without the requirement to download it, but still having the option to download it.

I can view attachments on gmail before I decide to download it or not. That would be a great feature for Proton, as long as it is secure. Also, fingerprint login for phone app please :)

This feature would push me to buy a subscription. As it is, until I can replace my Gmail, it isn't happening.

This would be useful; if it doesn't slow the application down too much.

Enable to view received attachments instantly in an open message without downloading them. Also it would be great to have a feature like Google Drive for storing attached files in the server. We believe in ProtonMail! Thank you!

Allow to select and download the attachment of a specific mail without opening the mail itself. This could be achieved by click on the attach-symbol. Right now that opens the mail. Everyday I get a several standard computercreated mails where only the attachment is different. So, a download without opening the mail is more efficient.

Would be great to have thumbnails of all attachments, not only pictures. It would be useful to recognize PDF files for example.

I would like to see thumbnails of pictures in email, not only link for downloading.
