Encrypted Names through Handshake (HNS)
Similar to how Bitcoin is uncensorable money, Handshake names are uncensorable words.
Handshake (HNS) is a decentralized naming protocol that aims to be the base of the web, and is the only protocol out there that's attempting to decentralize the DNS root zone. HNS names can be used for websites, email, usernames, and single-click login.
I want to let you know that the decentralized .ProtonMail top level domain is reserved for ProtonMail to claim on Handshake. See here: https://hnsnetwork.com/names/protonmail
There are several ideas that can be looked into. All ProtonMail users can get a .protonmail name that mirrors their existing ProtonMail email. If someone uses name@protonmail.com, they would automatically be given name@protonmail. Currently, Handshake names can only send and receive emails to each other. As far as the UX, the Handshake email can easily be toggled within the ProtonMail interface. Besides email, owners can potentially use name.protonmail to log in to their ProtonMail account (single-click login) as well as set up a decentralized website.
Overall, the integration of HNS will further strengthen ProtonMail's brand as being a leader in encryption.

Great idea. There are a few privacy and security aware browsers and already integrated Handshake to resolve Handshake Domains. Picking up the reserved Handshake TLD is even free. Now Protonmail could be the first mail provider integrating and offering mails with handshake.

That would be good. Handshake protocol shares the same values with ProtonMail by creating a secure and open DNS root zone.
It is the most important DNS improvement in decades.

This would be an amazing partnership and allow Protonmail and HNS to grow at a much faster pace! I think this is a great idea and I very much hope that it gets implemented soon.
