  3. Better map: individual city markers and country outlines

The server markers on the map can be confusing, especially in very large countries. lt would be nice to have one marker per City, which would also make it easier to find a location closer to yourself in countries like the USA.
What makes it even more confusing is that there are no country outlines in the desktop (or at least Windows) client. As a result, you often have to guess where each country marker is. One marker per city would help, but even better would be country outlines like in the Android app.
Another thing that confused me was…

  4. Add general location selection to app (like browser extension)

In the ProtonVPN extension I can search for a location, then click the location and it will connect to (I think) the best server in that location. For example, I can search for 'Phoenix' and just click that, and it will pick a server in the Phoenix area for me (I am assuming it's the best one at the time of connection).

In the apps, you have to select the individual server manually. Please make the app able to connect by selecting a general location like the extension.

  5. Bring interactive map back to Android app

I like the new app design on Android, but the map section has just become useless, you can't use it to search for servers, it is just there for this (good looking) fancy animation when you connect to a server from the list.
I would like to be able to see map markers (one per city) on the map and connect to them via press. For this you obviously should also be able again to traverse the map and zoom in/out.

  6. Please re-build ProtonVPN Linux GUI app with Qt Framework

Hi! I like the ProtonVPN GUI app on Linux. It has so many good features.

But I think that the choice of GTK was a mistake. This framework is just one large piece of garbage - from both points of view - devs and user experience.

    1. Most serious, quality and useful apps for Linux (about 90%) are uses Qt Framework.

    2. GTK is unpopular. Every year more and more existing Linux software are rewritten with Qt Framework. It's stable and gives better look'n'feel experience.

    3. GTK development is chaotic. The developers themselves don't know what they want. It looks like that GTK…

  7. Linux: SSH tunnel to a server, then OpenVPN through this tunnel

Raw OpenVPN is often blocked. So one simple option would be to start an SSH tunnel to the VPN server port 443 or 80 or 53 like this:

    ssh -N -D 127.0.0.1:10000 -oUserKnownHostsFile=<you provide> -p 443 <username>@<vpn_host_IP> &

    then

    sudo openvpn location.protonvpn.tcp.ovpn

    ovpn config would contain setting:
    socks-proxy 127.0.0.1:10000

This costs nothing but ROI is tremendous: all users of operators where OpenVPN protocol is blocked will be yours.

It would be useful to also have Albania among the available countries. Useful for several video and music streaming sites

  9. Configure which servers NOT to connect to.

Some sites may refuse to connect.
Therefore, we would like users to be able to configure VPN servers that they do not use by creating profiles.

  10. Adult content - move out states that Require ID Verification or create safe list of states

Consider moving servers out of states (like Virginia, for example) that require ID verification to access "adult content." Failing that, please allow VPN users to create a list of "safe" states or else to block/opt out of those that aren't safe for online browsing.

Allowing a pre-selected list of states would also be helpful for sites that only operate in certain regions of the U.S. and block access to states where they aren't in business.

  11. Netshield settings for Browser Plugin

I would really love to have the netshield an maybe even the killswitch settings in the VPN Plugin for Browsers. There are some reasons why I dont always have my VPN Client on but I would really love to use the VPN in my Browser all time with all the settings.

  13. Improve screen reader support

As a screen reader user it can be fairly tricky tabbing around the interface to get access to all the various sections and areas of the app such as viewing the server list by country. You can get most things done through Windows command prompt which is excellent but for most people it would make life so much easier if screen reader accessability was taken into consideration during development of the app. For that reason I find it quick and simple grabbing server configs from my account using either Openvpn or Wireguard for windows as the interfaces and menues in…

  14. Android: Smart View (Screen/Mirror Cast)

The Samsung feature called "Smart View" which allows screen casting/screen mirroring your phone to the TV does not work if Proton VPN is enabled despite having the "Smart View" app in the excluded apps list in Proton VPN and despite allowing LAN connections is enabled as well.

Please fix this issue as this feature can and has been done with other VPN providers.

  15. Bring back Permanent KillSwitch in Linux Protonvpn v4

Protonvpn v4 on Ubuntu no longer supports the Permanent KillSwitch.
This poses a Risk if a user forgets to manually start Protonvpn or if a user gets disconnected from a current session.

  16. Split tunneling for folders

I would like to have the option to split tunnel folders so that I don't have to add each program individually to the split tunneling list.

For example, I want to add all my Steam games to the split tunneling list (for multiplayer games), with this option I only had to add my Steam library folder to the list.

In this split tunneling folder, there could be an option to exclude some subfolders, so that some games, for example, can still run through the VPN.

  17. Add whitelist to Kill Switch

Allow selecting specific networks (LAN or WiFi) to be excluded from the "permanent kill switch" feature on Windows.
This would allow me to connect to my LAN without VPN while at home. But whenever I take my notebook somewhere else, it will be offline until a VPN connection is established.

  19. Reinstate IKEv2 protocol for iOS

    IKEv2 is native to iOS.

I know there a security issues with the way iOS implements this protocol on iOS.

But… since often ( in my case as well) a lot of apps offer services which are actually a vpn protocol. Like an adblocker for instance.

Now… I use to be able to setup 2 vpns simultaneously. One protocol and one personal. This because IKEv2 is native to iOS.

Now I constantly have to switch!

Please use a middle ground in this case.

Reinstate the IKEv2 as a protocol option, but warn users of it’s drawbacks.

    Everybody wins.

    Thanks

  20. Split Tunneling - Make selected apps or IP's VPN-only

When using split tunneling you are able to select which apps or IP's you want to be routed through the VPN. Would it be possible to to also make the selected apps or IP's only work through VPN? This way if the VPN goes down these apps would blocked but you wouldn't need to kill all internet traffic. This is a feature that Private Internet Access has.
