Feature parity between Windows/Mac and Linux
I've started using Proton VPN in Windows, and it's a great app, full of resources, with great graphics, many resources, ability to auto-start, start minimized, auto-connect to a profile... The Mac version also looks very similar to Windows'.
However, recently I changed to Linux (Pop OS, Ubuntu based), and although I had no problems installing the GUI version of the app, it does not even remotely resemble the Windows/Mac version. It's a very, veeeeeeeeery simple app, without the majority of configuration options present in their other OS's counterparts.
Proton VPN team should dedicate more time to make the Linux version…

Dedicated IP for personal plans
It is an option for business users and would be a nice add for home users. My wife is sick of all the capchas and blocked sites from the VPN. I have been using Proton mail since 2019 and the unlimited since last year. Had to switch back to mail only until you add the dedicated ip to home users at a reasonable cost.
Thank you for the consideration.

Better technlology to bypass websites that actively block VPNs
I am increasingly facing websites that actively block people when connecting via VPN. I see this trend increasing and it is a threat to privacy.
There was already a feature request in this regard labeled as "finished". Funny enough, the website mentioned in that request still doesn't work with the VPN enabled: https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932836-proton-vpn/suggestions/46860823-bypassing-vpn-blockers-option
It is really easy for websites to see that the connection is via a VPN and we need better technology design to avoid being blocked for the wrong reasons.
I certainly don't want to connect to banks or other sites without a VPN connection, especially when in…

Exclude unwanted countries from the list of random and fastest servers.
It often happens that in random or fastest mode, a connection is established through servers in countries that are not desirable for many people.

Split Tunneling: Two Different VPN Connections Simultaneously
If technically feasible, I would find it great if two VPN connections could be established simultaneously via split tunneling, for example one for streaming and one for everything else, or one with port-forwarding and at the same time a second one without port-forwarding.

Allow Killswitch to be enabled with Split Tunnel
Currently, the app will not allow you to use the Split Tunnel feature if you have the Killswitch enabled. Having migrated from Private Internet Access, I was used to having this possibility with their client and would love to see this in Proton VPN as well.
Having some exceptions configured to bypass the VPN should not completely block the killswitch feature and open the risk of IP leaks.
I would be okay with the VPN app completely killing my bypassed connections as well, it wouldn't even have to be gracefully respecting those. That would just be a nice-to-have.

Profiles: Allow selecting multiple servers
It would be nice to change profiles to add a checkbox beside the servers in the list so we can select multiple servers to put in the profile and leave out others.
Ex. I would like only Toronto Ontario servers nothing else in one profile.
Thanks

Real Quantum Encryption
For all Apps here are a few post-quantum cryptographic algorithms that are being considered as potential replacements for current cryptographic standards:
- Lattice-based cryptography: This includes algorithms like NTRUEncrypt, Kyber, and NewHope.

Change desktop app icon color to indicate connection status
The proton VPN app icon currently shows the connection status by showing a tiny cross sign or a tick, which is hardly noticeable when you have a high-resolution monitor. Changing the icon colour will make it much better. This can even be an option for the user to select the icon they would like to see when the connection is established or disconnected.

Browser Extension Split-Tunnelling: allowlist AND blocklist
Add the ability to choose which websites DO use the VPN (not just which websites should be excluded from the VPN tunnel).

Improved server search and profile creation.
Provide the ability to search for servers and create profiles using filters based not only on country but things like city, state, type of server (e.g., basic, P2P), load, latency, etc.

Please re-build ProtonVPN Linux GUI app with Qt Framework
Hi! I like the ProtonVPN GUI app on Linux. It has so many good features.
But I think that the choice of GTK was a mistake. This framework is just one large piece of garbage - from both points of view - devs and user experience.
Most serious, quality and useful apps for Linux (about 90%) are uses Qt Framework.
GTK is unpopular. Every year more and more existing Linux software are rewritten with Qt Framework. It's stable and gives better look'n'feel experience.
GTK development is chaotic. The developers themselves don't know what they want. It looks like that GTK…

Porn/adult sites blocker for NetShield
Warp (CloudFlare) has a feature for their equivalent of NetShield that also blocks porn/adult sites from the DNS, in addition to options for malware and ads. Consider adding this for a family-friendly setting?

Headless CLI
There is little reason why the CLI is not able to run in a headless setup and needs authentication via UI.
Seems easy to implement and I seem to remember that this once worked?17 votes -
Basic VPN plan
My current VPN service, which includes Google VPN and additional features, costs $25 per year. While I have the free version of ProtonVPN, I don't use it because it lacks servers in my home country, causing issues with accessing some local websites. I would consider switching to ProtonVPN if they offered a paid tier just above the free plan with a reasonable price, ideally including 1 or 2 overseas servers and 1-2 local servers for accessing local content.

Include Domain Names in Split Tunneling Exclude list
Currently, adding a website to the exclude list requires that I first must find out the IPv4 numerical address, which is not easy to do for a lot of people. I eventually found: https://dns-lookup.com
It would be nice if the exclude list could accept names instead of numbers, it would only require using your own DNS server to return the numerical address to the app as an appended tag for the exclude entry - so the app would still work pretty much the same as before

ProtonVPN: better support for arm linux (Raspberry Pi, PinePhone, etc)
ProtonVPN gui and cli can be installed on various operating systems running on different arm devices. It seems that Debian-based OSes like Raspberry Pi OS and Mobian cannot properly use either tool. The connection fails and ultimately you are unable to access the internet. In order to correct this you need to run:
sudo nmcli connection delete pvpn-ipv6leak-protection
as suggested here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1319033/internet-stops-working-after-installing-protonvpn.
It would be nice to see more devices/oses supported. Until then when the connection fails at least it should clear any connection leftovers automatically.
