How can we improve Proton VPN?

  1. Add ad-blocker list option, like BlockAda/Ad-Away of Pi-Hole

    As Blockada offer the ability to choose between many safe improve adblock or social tracking etc.

    Add an option for enable and select pre-choose lists (and maybe, an advance option for add-it manually from filter list for example https://filterlists.com/)

  3. Obfuscated servers

    Create obfuscated servers and make them available for all platforms (windows to router configuration). This to enhance more privacy, as well bypass censorship to connect to/from VPNs and other restrictions. With this, VPN traffic would look like any old regular internet traffic to ISPs, government, private companies or streaming services, hence, can’t see that connection is from a VPN service. Pros of this, navigate the internet normal and have most of the regular services available on webpages to streaming libraries.

  4. Split tunnelling for Android TV

    An essential feature given how much video and game (Geforce Now for example) streaming is done now a days on a device such as a Nvidia Shield. This has been supported by the Mullvad VPN client on Android TV for years.

  5. Server fallback

    Not sure if technically possible but it would be nice to have an automatic server fallback in case the current server is down or slow, have the syste mswitch the connection to another server. I'm talking about router level VPN, of course this is not a problem with the app

  6. Split-tunneling for Nvidea Shield app

    Nord VPN currently has split-tunneling for the Nvidea Shield app. Proton does not. This is important because several apps on my shield will not work with VPN and I like not having to turn it off every time.

  7. Separate Key/Cert in download configuration

    AirVpn has the possibility to generate ( for OPENVPN protocol) separate file for ca.crt user.crt user.key tls-crypt.key.
    it is useful for old device with Linux

  8. Add regex support to split tuneling

    When an app gets updated, the executable path may change. This breaks the split tuneling setup, which has to be remade through the ui.
    The suggestion is to allow user to add executable paths with regexes.

    • Adding more servers and locations to increase speed and reliability .
    • Offering more features and options for customization and security .
    • Providing better customer support and feedback channels .
    • Updating the user interface and design to make it more user-friendly and intuitive .

  10. Add Sub-Region Options for Profiles

    "Fastest" keeps giving me servers that are thousands of kilometres away and definitely not the fastest.

    You already have sub-regions in the server names; I should be able to pick them for profiles.

    (It would be nice to have them on the map, too, like NordVPN does, but that's not critical. It'd probably be nice for your marketing pictures too, as you'd have more triangles for people to see.)

    You make it really hard to see all options and pick and chose and compare.

    Your packages sure are priced well, but I rather pay more and get what I want, exactly and not have to pay less for something I don't want

  14. Enabling ProtonVPN in Android through sendbroadcast() action

    Different networks have different requirements. This is why give to the user the possibility to automate connections would be a win for ProtonVPN application (android). For example at work my wifi does only allow VPN over UDP, so I have to create a special profile. I would love to automate this using https://server47.de/automation/ for example (or whatever), it works very well with wireguard ( i.e. https://android.stackexchange.com/a/250566/398905 ).

  16. Set apparience on Android as well as on IOS

    I've just seeing the IOS app screenshot from https://protonapps.com/protonvpn-android

    The buttons are located at button and the android version located at top. Is any way to change this and the two version looks the same?

    This idea or feature was sent at Proton with Bluesky and Twitter/X

  17. Monochromatic Sytstem Tray Icon - (Windows)

    I've been using Mullvad VPN and love the option to use a Monochromatic System Tray Icon. It makes the VPN appear as a native feature built into the OS instead of a clunky third-party application. With a Monochromatic System Tray Icon, users would psychologically think of Proton VPN as a natural part of their workflow.

  18. Add existing Android settings to Android TV

    Today, there is no "Settings" section in Android TV app, which means it is impossible to activate features like NetShield, which would be very convenient to avoid ads on TV.

  19. Quick Toggle for Split Tunneling

    Introduce a dedicated button on the main interface of the application on PC, allowing users to quickly toggle the Split Tunneling feature on or off. This enhancement aims to provide convenience and efficiency for those who frequently have to switch this option, eliminating the need to navigate to settings so often. This quick toggle button would be similar to the existing Port Forwarding and Kill Switch toggles.
