How can we improve Proton VPN?

  1. Changing your username once your account is made.

    When you create an account with Proton, you'll register using your email address. This email then serves as your username. Personally, I prefer not to feel like I'm logging into my email each time I access Proton. I typically set my username as "drlaggybro," and I find it convenient to use the same username across various platforms and services.

  2. Password Protect Proton VPN to lock settings & block ability to exit or disconnect

    Proton VPN could really use ability to lock the settings & block ability to exit or disconnect.

    It needs this to prevent kids from making changes or other users from making changes, exiting, or disconnecting.
    Somewhat similar to what is used with Proton Pass Security but need to also prevent the ability to exit or disconnect, or to switch servers.

  3. Choose DNS through the ATV App

    I'd love to switch from NordVPN to Proton but at the moment I have no possibility to set a custom DNS within the Proton Android TV app. The only way is to use OpenVPN which is really uncomfortable. Please, add the possibility to use custom DNS on android and you'll earn another user. Thanks

  5. Proton VPN: Add an Android widget or App icon popup options list

    An android widget or long hold the App icon : popup options list
    to switch VPN On/Off or switch Profile would be a great help in efficiently using the VPN.

  6. Shadowsocks proxy

    Dear Proton team,
    As an Iranian user of Proton VPN, I have trouble connecting to ProtonVPN even on stealth protocol. The only way to connect to VPN servers abroad is to use Shadowsocks proxy. Even with HTTP proxy and socks, the connection is not established. Recently, Argo VPN released an update that made it easy to connect to its servers using Shadowsocks proxy. You can see a picture of the program environment and its Google Play address below.
    If possible, add Shadowsocks proxy to Proton VPN in its programs.

  7. Automatically Revert to preferred profile/fastest server after maintenance

    Scenario: A user is connected to a preferred/fastest server and eventually it goes into maintenance and moves the user to the next fastest connection. However, when the preferred/fastest server goes back up, the user has to be mindful that he/she has to manually revert back to the preferred/fastest server. Also, there is no notification that the preferred/fastest server is back up.

  8. Kill-Switch for VPN Browser Extensions

    It would be great if I could optionally enable even just basic killswitch functionality on the browser extensions. If the VPN is not connected when I try to access the browser the extension should block the pages from loading and ideally throw an error until it is connected.

    Incidentally, this would in effect act as a limited version of the much requested split tunnel/kill-switch combo feature (VPN connection in browser can be separate from desktop VPN connection but in this case the browser can retain kill-switch functionality). Which is great because Proton does not have this capability with the desktop…

  10. VPN default profile

    VPN default profile. I use VPN for work and created a dedicate profile for it. Unfortunately there is no way for me to select the default profile, so whenever it conennects it takes the first fastest server making me change to the profile. I would like to have the possibility to change the default profile.

  11. Remove uncaught spying vector for slimy Google

    First, how many starting users know all the settings and that they might be "effectively" thinking they're private on the VPN, while really not necessarily being protected fully from Google spying.

    This is not a knock on Proton's excellent tunnel privacy, but a sort of front and back door that may be open, like it turned out to be on my iphone ProtonVPN install.

    The biggest spyware operation that's ever existed called "Google," has a DNS operation to spy further on users activities which can happen prior to entering the VPN tunnel... IF ... you have "Allow Alternative Routing" to…

  14. Automatically connect when tab is opened in incognito mode

    When a browser tab is opened in incognito/private mode, I would like the option to have ProtonVPN browser connect automatically, even if ProtonVPN was not turned on when not browsing in incognito.

  15. Add option to exit rather than minimize to system tray with close (X) button

    There should be a setting to exit instead of minimize to system tray when pressing the close (X) button in the top right of the window (on Windows).

  16. export and import the client configuration

    hello friends and thank you for providing protonvpn.
    i'd kindly suggest providing of a means to persist the client configuration when switching to another device.
    i think the best option would be to sync the configuration to the user account.
    another option could be to keep the app settings in the android app repository and allow google play to back them up.
    but allowing the user to export and import the settings would also be great.

  18. Make an official package for arch linux instead of the AUR package

    Why is there not an official arch linux package at this point? I think it would be awesome to just enter "sudo pacman -S protonvpn" in order to install it.

    It's not like arch linux is an lesser known operating system.
