  1. Add light theme for Proton Drive desktop app

The Proton Drive desktop app currently only supports a dark theme. Other Proton apps (Mail, Calendar, Drive web) already allow theme selection, so it would be great to have the same here.

I realize dark themes are more trendy, but for me they have a negative effect - I feel more tired and even sleepy when using them. In bright rooms the reflections also make it harder on the eyes. A light theme helps me stay more productive and matches the rest of my system.

  2. Add Conditional Sync Pause Feature for Proton Drive

I use Proton Drive to back up certain files for a game. However, it causes significant performance issues when the game is running due to constant synchronization. Currently, I have to manually pause the syncing, which requires me to remember to manually sync the files later.

A feature that pauses syncing based on specific conditions would be very helpful. These conditions could include:

    • When a window is in full-screen mode
    • When certain processes are running (like games)

This feature would benefit not only gamers but also anyone who needs a stable internet connection during critical tasks.

  3. Native DLP Capabilities for Business/Visionary Plans

As an Information Security Consultant currently advising small and mid-sized organizations on migrating from legacy suites (specifically Microsoft 365 E3/E5) to privacy-first, sovereign European alternatives. While Proton’s zero-knowledge architecture is the gold standard for data confidentiality, my risk assessments consistently identify a significant gap in Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities for Business and Visionary tiers.

Current compliance frameworks (GDPR Article 32, ISO 27001, SOC 2) require not just encryption at rest/in transit, but active controls against accidental or malicious exfiltration of sensitive data (PII, PHI, PCI-DSS).

Proton excels at preventing external interception. However, it lacks the ability to inspect outbound…

  4. Proton Mail - Sorting custom filters

Being able to sort the custom filters based on alphabetical order like it is already possible to filter your Folder and Labels.
This would make sure the managing of multiple filters is easy and convenient.

  5. data validation list for spreadsheets

A data validation LIST option would be welcomed for spreadsheets. Each cell in the column would have a drop down menu with the available options of the predefined list.

  6. Add EXIF data "CreationDate" if not exists

Images and videos which do not have a "CreationDate" tag in its EXIF data heavily rely on the "DateLastChanged" tag in order to be sorted correctly. WhatsApp for instance does not ship that CreationDate tag with its media files.
This leads to the problem that images without this important EXIF data entry cannot be downloaded without the loss of any date information (because all other tags are changed to todays date).

The idea is to set the "CreationDate" EXIF data if a media file does not have it at download time. It should use the "DateLastChanged" date for that. That…

  7. # 0105 Search & filter integration + “Topics” sidebar

    Hi Proton team,

I’d like to propose a single feature that would improve Proton Drive:

Idea: Extend the existing search bar to filter by tag and add a permanent “Topics” sidebar that lists all user‑defined tags for quick navigation.

    Why it matters:

    • Users can instantly locate all items with a given tag without opening multiple folders.
    • The sidebar provides a visual overview of the tagging taxonomy, helping non‑technical users discover related content.
    • Complements the virtual Topic Map view and encourages consistent tagging practices.

    Suggested implementation (high‑level):

    • Index encrypted tag metadata locally and perform tag‑filtered search client‑side.
    • Add a collapsible “Topics” panel on the…

  8. Slideshow Screensaver Android

I want to use my photos backed up on Proton Drive as a screensaver on an Android tablet. Google Photos has the option to be used directly as a screensaver, which shuffles through all backed up photos.

  9. Upload photos as zip files, or allow one-time import from Google

I'm in the process of switching off of Google's G-Suite, and moving my photos/videos off there, and into Proton Drive. Google Photos is nice because you can download a bunch of files into a zip file to save bandwidth. It would also be nice to upload that raw zip file into Proton Drive to save upload bandwidth. Upload speeds are usually much slower for folks too, so this would be really helpful.

Alternatively, it would be great to do a one-time import of photos from Google Photos, and just be done with it :)

    Thanks!

  11. Ability to opt out of certificate pinning

I want to use Proton Drive on my work computer but I can't because my work computer is secured with deep packet inspection, i.e. they have set it up to be a "man-in-the-middle" and can inspect all my encrypted traffic. Proton Drive protects against this (presumably via certificate pinning) and will not sync files up or down if the certificate is not correctly coming from Proton. This is a great security feature and I'm glad it is implemented, but it means I cannot use Proton Drive here at work. It would be nice if I could go into the settings…

  13. Search in the tools and menus for Docs and Spreadsheets

A searchable box that shows results for menus and tools. For example, in spreadsheets, by hitting a shortcut (like Alt+/) or clicking the box and typing “conditional,” it shows the option Conditional Formatting.

  14. Prompt lumo in docs (with diff view)

I would like to make adjustments in Proton Docs with Lumo similar to ChatGpt Canvas mode. So I can prompt Lumo in Proton docs, and it makes the adjustment. Ideally, the adjustment gets highlighted as a diff, like with working with LLMs in Cursor or Windsurf, so I can accept or reject the changes.

This would allow me to ditch Chatgpt for writing docs. Because currently I copy often Proton docs into Chatgpt, iterate there via Canvas and then copy it back.

  16. Support creating nested folders with path syntax (mkdir -p style)

When creating a new folder, allow users to enter a path with forward slashes to create the entire folder hierarchy in one step.

    Example:
Entering Photos/Events/2021_09_Wedding/Aperitif in the "Folder name" input would create all four nested folders at once.

    Expected behavior:
    - Folders that already exist are silently skipped
    - Only missing folders in the path are created
    - Works like mkdir -p on Linux/macOS

    Why this helps:
Currently, organizing files into a deep folder structure requires creating each folder individually, navigating into it, then creating the next one. This is tedious when setting up a new hierarchy or importing…

  17. Proton Docs: Convert footnotes from docx to Docs files and show comments on download

    1. I work in Ulysses (Markdown) and export to Word, store the docx files in Proton Drive and share with a collaborator, and we work together in Docs. While passages marked with the "::" code show as highlighted in docs, footnotes created in markdown, which show up in docx, do not show up in Docs files.

    2. There seems to be no way to download a docs file in any format and have the comments made in the docs file show up in the downloaded file. If there is, please let me know. If not, please consider adding this feature. Thanks.

  18. See and scroll all the Photos in my Drive

I'd like to switch from Dropbox to use a European and privacy-oriented software and I'm using since some years Protonmail and Vpn.
I tried your Proton Drive app and website, but both systems are not showing in the photos page all the pictures that I've saved in my cloud space. It's a bit of a pity, because sometimes I think that it's just simple and nice to look for a picture or image scrolling in a page in chronologically order, like Dropbox does.
It would be nice if Proton Drive would work like that.

  19. A WeTransfer download directly from Proton Drive

Right click on a file or folder and send a download link. No need to create a shared folder, no need for the receiver to create a Proton account; just a download like WeTransfer or Dropbox Transfer.

  20. Local cache

Other cloud providers have a local cache that you can set the size of, that just retains your most recently opened files so you're not having to re-download them every time you open them. I realise you can set specific files or folders to be available locally, but it's a pain having to do this when you have lots of different files (drawing files is what I'm thinking of) with large (GB) attachments. With a cache they're just available while actively working with them, and then they eventually get pushed back off the local drive when you're no longer opening…
