Proton Docs / collaboration suite
(folders and docs similar to GoogleDocs)
Proton mail needs some collaborative word processor and spreadsheet in a drive where people can securely work on it but only the person who owns the files can keep them and no one can download them or copy them.
Introducing Docs in Proton Drive – collaborative document editing that’s actually private: https://proton.me/blog/docs-proton-drive
With Docs you can:
- Write with privacy — Create and edit documents within Proton Drive, knowing your contents are only accessible to you and those you choose to share with.
- Share and invite anyone — Invite other users to view or edit your documents with a single click.
- Collaborate in real-time — Changes are reflected immediately, ensuring every contributor always sees the most up-to-date version.
- View cursors and presence indicators — See who else is viewing or editing the document, enhancing teamwork and communication.
- Leave comments and replies — Add comments to share feedback without editing the document. Comments are visible to all collaborators, keeping everyone in the loop.
- Import and export with ease — You can upload .docx documents, edit them, and download in various formats like .docx, .txt, .md, and HTML.

One of the difficulties in converting from Google/Microsoft to Proton is the lack of an integrated suite of document, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Proton Press (Word/Docs equivalent), Proton Present (Powerpoint/Slides), and Proton Hyper (Excel/Sheets) would be very useful. I am a software engineer and would love to help.

I agree that this would be great, BUT Proton Docs (IMHO) would be a new product and I worry that Proton have already spread their resources very thin with the existing products. Calendar and Drive are still missing core features and (at least on iOS) updates are coming too slowly from my perspective as a long time paying customer.
Personally I do not think that Proton should introduce any additional products until the existing suite has been polished further. I have not been able to move from Tresorit to Drive yet and after migrating my calendars to Proton, I'm quite close to migrating them away again due to missing basic features.
So Proton Docs - yes, would be great, but more investment and focus needed on existing products first.

While I understand why Drive doesn't support live edit options due to security. Having an online excel that you can either edit via Drive or a standalone app would be extremely beneficial. Even if it's limited to personal use or allowing only other invited proton users.

If your friend also has proton drive and he wants to share a huge amount of data, would be easier to make share a copy on your existing proton drive

From 2016 to 2024. Crickets from Proton. I have been making to move from the G silo but not having even a simple document service after 8 years of people begging is pretty poor coming up on just shy of 18000 votes.

Ditto. I had a sudden need for a collaboration feature in ProtonDrive. At this time the feature doesn't exist in Proton, so I'm passing over an upgrade to the ProtonDrive account in favor of a cloud service that does offer the collaboration function.
The feature request remains unfulfilled since the December 2016, despite the number of votes 3X more than the next runner-up. Which I take to imply that it's not possible within the current Proton security framework. Else the feature would have been implemented ages ago.

Proton Drive is great except for this BIG exception. I would leave all my Google Drive accounts if this feature to edit, etc spreadsheets whether in word or excel were available here.
PLEASE GET THIS FEATURE added to proton drive!

Cloud writer and spreadsheet software linked to proton drive. Could be a reimplementation of something like libreoffice or if there’s already an open source cloud based word processing software, repurpose the code from there.

I don t think we are talking here of having a suite like google docs. It is a more general request for any type of file. This works for we on windows with the proton drive app. However, i need badly this feature on Android. Must have. Deal breaker

Full office suit is not an urgent feature, at least a plain text editor (maybe with markdown support) would be super nice.

It would be amazing to have a freemium cloud suite with spreadsheets, documents, and slideshows with security and encryption. Google and Microsoft are the only big players in this game, and even then the free plan is web-only. I propose that it be both desktop and web for Flatpak (multi-distro support, less work), Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android. It should also integrate with proton mail, as a share button, and save to your proton drive.

Share folders and files between multiple proton users of group members. Work all in the same folder, just as SharePoint/MSTeams. More collaborating instead of sharing as it is now.

This is very important to me since this works really convenient with Google Docs and it would be great if Proton will have this feature.

This would be an amazing addition to Proton. Its the one piece still missing for me, after migrating from gmail. I am still searching for a good alternative to google docs. Proton Docs / Office suite please! ***

A buit-in online Office would be great. Editing, storing, sending right inside the browser – ah, and previewing, too.

Looking forward to when this hopefully comes to fruition! A Proton Docs Suite would easily convert many Google users worried about their data.

The rate-limiting factor now to use Google Workspace apps for small businesses is the number of emails a user can write daily or monthly. For shoestring budget startups these tools are essential in order to avoid spending on more specific tools, but the bottleneck for growth is email volume and deliverability. This is Google's extortion scheme. Build out the apps ecosystem more and we will all FINALLY have a viable alternative for all-purpose small business functions.

Proton Documents on Proton Drive, where the owner can assign various permissions to other Proton Users, like: Edit, or Comment (this I consider optional) or merely view.
And then it should have the option to view the documents for anyone with the link.Proton Sheets should follow.

this is a huge need. I don't want to be using Microsoft or Google docs. I want my docs to be private. This would give a reason to store a lot of files on proton drive.
