How can we improve Proton Drive?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Customize duration between version history

    Proton Drive stores a maximum of 200 versions of a file. If, for example, you save frequently when programming, you can quickly save 200 versions. For example, I would need a version of a file from 2 days ago. Unfortunately, the history only goes back to yesterday.

    It would be good to save versions of a file at a time interval. For example, 5, 10, 15 etc. minutes between the modification time of a file. This would be a global setting for the version history.

  2. Syncing delay for desktop client

    I often temporariliy work with files on my PC. For example I want to unzip a zip file, copy the contents to another drive and then delete the unzipped folder. Now with automatic syncing enabled I have to wait until the unzipped folder has been synced with Proton Drive before I can deleted (because the folder is in use by the proton desktop client).

    My suggestion is to add a "sync delay" option so that it waits for x minutes before syncing to Proton Drive. This allows me to delete files and folders right away, and probably will also reduce…

  3. Pin favorite folders to navbar

    I would like to be able to pin specific folders to the left navbar, like having a list of favorite folders.

  4. Wifi only option for syncing all files on Android

    Currently uploading files / making files available offline uses whatever internet connection is available, including cellular. There should be an option to make these actions wifi only.

  5. Asustor Support

    Hi!

    I have an Asustor NAS that can back up to off-site storage. While there are plenty of off-site solutions from Amazon, Google, etc., having it tied to an encrypted service like ProtonDrive would be great!

    Synced a folder that was too big, so it did not complete. No way to delete from desktop, so went to app to do it.

  7. Scroll through photos on iOS

    I noticed that when using Proton Drive with the iOS app, you only have to open one photo at a time to view images. It would be very useful if, once the first photo has been opened, it was possible to view the others by scrolling through them as happens in the web version.

  8. Cryptographically signed (and verified) media

    With the challenges with misinformation and AI generated videos, photos and audio, Proton is in a unique position to leverage their development of pgp tools to integrate pgp signatures into the metadata for media. Similar to the preshared keys to validate (and encrypt) data with Proton's other products, this would be a video/photo feature of Proton Drive that would allow the signing of the photo with a pgp type signature. I'm not sure exactly how this would work given that pgp is file based but I think that Proton is well positioned to address verifying the chain of ownership for…

  10. ProtonDrive shares with other ProtonDrive

    Irrespective if the users belong to the same paying package, the ability to share data/links from one ProtonDrive to another ProtonDrive either by allowing shared link to be directly accessible or other means to achieve the following:

    1. User A upload to their ProtonDrive
    2. User A share a link to User B
    3. User B access the link
    4. User B download locally link content
    5. User B upload content in their ProtonDrive

    make 3. and 4. and 5. be directly in ProtonAG servers.

  11. Select a Folder With Photos/Videos Currently In Proton Drive And Have Them Transferred Over To Photos And Remove Duplicates

    I have used Proton Drive to backup a lot of Photos. Google Photos also has a lot of my photos which I am trying to get away from. It would be nice to be able to transfer photos that I have in Proton drive over to Photos by selecting the exact folder to be transferred and have the option to remove it from the drive portion, It would also be great if it could recognize duplicate photos and suggest ways to clean up space in photos. The remove duplicates feature would allow me to move entirely away from Google Photos.

  12. Retain Proton Drive folder data on local disk, as selectable default

    I would like the functionality for Proton Drive folder to retain copy of data on my local disk, and have this functionality be selectable as a default.

    My preference is to utilize 3-2-1 backup strategy,
    copy-1 located on laptop,
    copy-2 located on nearby portable disk, and
    copy-3 located offsite-remote (Proton Drive).

    Current default behavior of Proton Drive is to REMOVE copy-1 after creating copy-3.
    Current process available is to MANUALLY perform “DOWNLOAD” from copy-3, although I prefer to have this process available as selectable default.

  13. Option for synced photos to maintain original folder structure

    A setting for mirroring the original storage file/folder structure when photos are backed-up would make searching, managing and retrieving files less daunting.

  14. Store local data in a VeraCrypt-encrypted volume on Windows

    Be able to locate in a volume encrypted with VeraCrypt on PC (possibly on a USB key) the data synchronized with that stored in the Proton Drive Cloud.

    Select SHIFT doesn't seem to work when doing it over months. It works normally when doing it over individual photos, even across months.

  16. Dedicated file / folder share option for Windows Explorer and Kubuntu Dolphin

    Currently it looks like the only way to share a file or folder is through the web app and only when copying a file link. Can we have a dedicated file/folder share option as an integrated option in our native browsers - Explorer for Windows or Dolphin in Kubuntu?

  18. Proton Automatic Secure Backup for local PC

    I currently use Google to back up my local PC files, and have found it both convenient and very reliable, but because I am aware of the privacy issues, I first I use a product called BoxCryptor to encrypt the files before they are handed off to Google. This has worked well, balances the convenance of cloud backup with data security. But BoxCytptor has been acquired by another company, and so now I’m going to have to locate an alternative solution. I would prefer to simply back up my data directly to my Proton drive and call it a day…

  19. Desktop support for photos

    Hello,
    It's awesome we can now backup photos from phones, however it's not really convenient to search through all the photos (mobile and web), I wish we had an UI/UX similar to what Dropbox does.

    Also I'd love to be able to check my backed up photos from my computer (again, similar to Dropbox, just a preview from the folder, and only download if I open the photo), now I can only check from the web.

  20. Syncing between devices: support junctions in "My files" folder

    In this folder "C:\Users\WINUSER\Proton Drive\PROTONUSER\My files" that gets created by Proton Drive, a user should be able to include one or more Windows junctions (which point to folders elsewhere on the drive).

    This would allow a user to set up a junction pointing to the same arbitrary folder XYZ on two or more computers, which would keep the contents synced between those computers and the Proton Drive.

    (I have two computers on which I want to keep data in sync.)
