2 Factor Authentication

This is such a shame. I have cash waiting to pay for this service once available, assuming I don't find an alternative in the meantime.

I would love to know if 1password 2FA is supported

please allow use of Authy/Google Authenticator, not just sms verification.

This would be a very useful feature to overcome the difficulties of dealing with end to end encryption of Protonmail to Other emails.
A possible solution would be to have a mobile phone number field in the contacts to enter the number for the recipient and have the system automatically generate the encryption TAN to send to that phone number. -

Agree this should be an opt-in feature. (But avoid SMS as second factor -- is not secure. NIST advises to use tokens rather than SMS.)

As it now seems to be standard to have 2FA nowadays I would just like to add that there will need to be a robust recovery procedure for if a mobile is lost/stolen. For instance I find it amusing that my friends set up 2FA with Google, print out the emergency codes as advised...then take photos of the codes for safety!

Too bad. I am off to another mailservice. Cannot wait any longer for 2FA. Protonmail claim that they will implement it, but years go by...

Please add this !

This is absurd. Two-pass is basically a standard for anyone using email at this point.

I have a ProtonMail account that I'd be happy to pay for but without a decent 2FA implementation I'm not even prepared to use it. After this long I'm now looking for alternatives. A real shame.

I was pretty surprised to not see this as a feature offered with protonmail. I know things cost money and nothing is free, but it should be an option. It could be an added feature to a paid plan, so that those who want added security are willing to pay a few bucks for it.

Opt-in only:
First set of Digits and common symbols should be generated based
Second Should be separate password based (neither login nor decrypt password)
Third combined stacked method of previous inside of a third method outputA little much maybe but if its going to be two factor i would rather go overboard then shy or middle ground.

come on protonmail step up... 2FA is here and we need this security

Bart commented
If yes please do it only OPTIONAL. Thx

Please make it opt-in. I do not want to provide phone number or use Google services for the second factor. Or have my IP or device fingerprint used or whatever.
2FA is two factors among 3 possibilities: Something you have, something you know, something you are.
Well, turns out I don't want to tell about anything I have or am. What I know, passwords, is strong enough for me.
For other people this is a fine feature.

Please add 2FA supporting mobile apps and SMS auth.

{ agree with arman {August 22, 2016} 2-Factor Authentication needs to be a choice of ProtonMail users, not a requirement. Such additional security is only needed with highly sensitive communications and email users with weak passwords, especially those who use the same password to enter and decrypt ProtonMail, a dangerous practice that defies the rules of logic in using a secure email service like ProtonMail.

@Laurent The second factor could be Google Authenticator.

I don't understand the point.
As Petr wrote, we already have two levels of protection. What do you mean by two factors ?
Are you suggesting two different applications ? protonmail + authentication ?
Knowing that authentication by Text message is not secured at all.
