  1. Remove dependance on google play services

Protonmail android app is dependent on google play services and that is obviously against privacy and security.
Users who removed/disable google play services or used vanilla "lineageos" without gapps cannot get the mail client work properly.
Google play services collect every possible piece of info about the user; location, body sensors, application usage, and every other possible thing. So telling the use to enable/install google services you compromise his privacy and security by 3rd party app which is clearly against the idea if Protomail.

I hope you can correct this and have no dependence on google at all.

  2. No Data Retention, no logs, and more transparency.

Things that should have been here.

Protonmail needs to be more transparent in the same way as it is expressively transparent, when it says that its service is hosted in Switzerland.

    Why?

There are things we should not ask to do as we do here on this list, ask for encrypted data where it should already have, major keys etc.

These things should already be in place and not be something on demand.

Protonmail has an easier to use interface, but that does not mean it's not as accurate in privacy as it should be.

    *E-mail traffic log: Messages sent…

  3. Do not use google at all!

ProtonMail service is positioned as private and anonymous. But when you click on the contact button, it offers to import from Google evil corporation (screenshots: https://shorturl.at/loLNV https://shorturl.at/oxGO9) This action compromises the IP address of the evil corporation. Kindly remove this button from such a visible place or mark it with a sign warning of possible compromise of IP and other data. Also, I believe that any service that cares in any way about user privacy should sever all ties with evil corporation Google. This is not a good move by a company that values privacy and anonymity. Google is…

  5. Remove social media links from ProtonMail website

Social media links are used for tracking.
People can still share about ProtonMail without using social media links.
I hope social media links don't end up in users email accounts.

  6. English (British/Austalian/American) as a language option

Currently there is one 'English' as a language option, this is in reality American or American English. Some of the differences are not at al subtle. Virtually all other services have the two separated, as American is a fairly isolated language whereas English (or British English) covers the UK, Australia, New Zealand, large numbers in India and a majority in Europe (though American is also popular in Europe now).

It seems like minimal effort would be required to create a proper English as an additional language but would remove so much confusion with English speakers that don't understand many of…

  8. Stop attaching links to protonmail.com inside each email

Whenever we send an email protonmail always attaches protonmail.com as a comment to the signing as well as the gpg key. I feel this is forceful advertising by protonmail. As of now there is no method to remove the same.

  9. Addresses formatting options for different countries

In the Contact Details area, the Addresses need to have several alternate format options to comply with the standard format for various countries. For instance, in the U.S.A.

    Street Address, Apt. #
    City, State
    Zip Code +4
    USA

    Example:

    4578 Liberty Drive, Apt. #11
    Lambertville, MI
    47821-4541
    USA

With the current address formatting set up in ProtonMail, it displays like this:

    4578 Liberty Drive, Apt. 11
    47821-4541, Lambertville
    MI, USA

    Please fix this

  11. Option to turn off (some) security alerts.

I use PM both on my phone and laptop. Now every time I login on the laptop I get the same security alert on my phone that there was a "new login".

I would like there to be a way in which I either:
*) Make an exception for this laptop or IP address or something
*) or even turn off these alerts all together.

The way it is now is very distracting. Any time I want to login to send an email I'm distracted by my phone.
Many thanks in advance. PM is great!

  12. Self-Destruct Action on Filters

Flag incoming messages to self-destruct with a Filter.

I get a lot of transient notification emails (pickup order is ready, package shipped, etc) that I don't need to keep around forever. I currently go through every so often and clean these out, but it takes time and is kind of a pain.

Adding an action to Filters to set the self-destruct behavior would let me flag senders/subjects and automatically set those to expire after a period of time.

  13. I would appreciate somewhere a listing of accessibility tips for folks with low vision.

I find the web font readable and love the fact that ProtonMail does not get totally screwed up if I enlarge the screen (ctrl+). If you've ever had to "reset" your browser due to uneven enlargement, you know what I am talking about! I am surprised that there is no "help" category called "accessibility." That said, maybe those of us affected could compile of list of tips and tricks we found useful. I personally just discovered keyboard shortcuts are turned on by default. This explains why emails disappear into thin air. Save yourself a headache and go turn that off!…

  15. Remove All Mail Folder / Give Option to Deactivate

I find the "All Mail" Folder to be completely worthless. I want to delete old emails from this folder (that I can't find located anywhere else) but I'm unable to delete them. When I delete them, they reappear. What is going on?

If I could completely remove this folder, that would be ideal. I'm not seeing any way to disable this folder. I wish this option was available to me.

  16. Custom color for calendar, events and mail themes

I recently switched from Google to PM, but I have to admit that the graphic style of PM is a bit of a disappointment, with this bright purple and very limited palette. Some like it, others don't. I liked Google's a lot, tbh. It would be nice to have the possibility to customize the themes of the mail (send button, accent colors, and stuff like this) or at least pick custom colors for mail labels, events etc. so that each user can make the experience more appealing.

  17. Notes/Descriptions for "My Addresses" aliases

Similar to how SimpleLogin allows you to add notes for each alias (under an alias's "Alias Description") so you can remember which aliases exist for which purpose, it would be helpful to have this feature as an option in the "My Addresses" section for ProtonMail as well. The more e-mail ProtonMail addresses one has, the more useful this would be!

  18. Proton is great but lacks integration with Android (and others)

Proton is intended for (extreme) privacy and I get it. This is very good and terrible at the same time : the vast majority of your apps provide no possibility to have a smooth integration with the ecosystem they live in :
    - Calendar : impossible to have my events in the Android calendar with my other accounts. Calendars can't be shared so that people use a common calendar for common activities.
    - Contacts : impossible to have my contacts in Android so I could use them with the dialer
    - Drive : no sync client for Linux, Windows, MacOS
