Flatpak and or AppImage versions of all the Proton apps would be helpful to cover more Linux distros whilst not yet universal it would be a step in the right direction. Until then I will just use the free versions. Only when Linux is fully supported will I consider upgrading to the paid services.

Linux is the future!

There's obviously a large community of Linux users who want to utilize Proton and Proton should prioritize Linux support.

I'm increasingly scandalized by Proton's contempt for Linux users. The VPN application is unbearably slow, freezes constantly, and we have no access to the latest features available for Mac or Windows. We still don't have an application that allows normal use of the drive, i.e. the ability to synchronize the local hard drive with the cloud, so I have 500GB that is unusable... The email and calendar application is really below the minimum.
And Proton claims to have a policy of ethics and respect for customers. They should add, unless you use Linux! This request thread has been open for months without any response from the staff... It's really shameful!

Proton Pass still runs on X11 instead of Wayland. X11 is being deprecated because is old and insecure, Proton apps should run on Wayland. Also, if Proton doesn't want to rely on Flatpak, at least they should have their own deb and rpm repositories (they only have one and is only for Proton VPN)

Upcoming Windows updates are increasingly pushing AI to do shady or dubious things where we don't really know what it's doing and what data it's collecting.

For example, in the upcoming 24H2 update, the AI's “Recall” feature becomes a Windows Explorer dependency, making it increasingly difficult for users to completely remove any AI functionality they don't want...

Today, more than ever, I really want to permanently switch to Linux but I can't because:
- 1st Proton Drive is still not available
- 2nd ProtonVPN is really in a bad shape on Linux

Please Proton Team we need these on Linux asap.

The lack of support for linux in general is holding me back to get a paid account. There's no flatpak/snap version of their apps in 2024, crazy.

Since Windows 11 and it's further development is already and will even more be a survilliance tool, I see alot of people changing to Linux. Especially because the development of linux in the last years is tremendous! Props to the devs.
So that in mind it's a rational step to develop all Desktop Apps equally for Linux.

The fact that there will be a Proton switch to Linux instead of Windows is
because Windows is a critical mass for Proton with a much greater reach than Linux users. Windows critical mass is in business use. That is decreasing.
Just look at countries (governments) that are switching to Linux and putting Windows aside.
As individuals we have to be patient, the change will really come. Nobody knows when.

With Windows becoming more invasive every time, this should be an absolute priority. Flatpak official support would be great starting point.

I want to use Proton services because of the large push towards privacy and for that same reason I use Linux on many of my personal devices. I currently can't justify the switch to Proton because of the lack of support for Linux devices. If Linux apps for mail, drive, etc were launched I would make the switch.

Absolutely, Linux should be a priority over Windows, especially in a community like this one!

I don't know what will happen with Windows in 2025, but I think it would be very positive for Proton to be able to provide an excellent service for Linux in case there is a massive migration. Because currently the services on that OS are not good enough.

Proton Drive was launched a year ago and they still haven't figured out a way to sync files on Linux, this is so disappointing.
