Trash & Archive icons
Hi, the two icons for "Archive" and "Trash" an e-mail seems confusing: they are located next from each other and have a similar design.
In my opinion, changing this might help ProntonMail users.

The icons for Trash and Archive are too similar, I always have to double check before clicking on one of them.
Could you make them more distinguishable? Thank you.

Came here to say this -- I keep hitting one when I mean to hit the other and then having to check my trash bin to make sure I didn't accidentally delete items I meant to keep.

Please would you consider changing the archive icon to something very different because it looks very similar to the delete icon.
Myself and a couple of others I know are getting them mixed up.
Thank you for your consideration. -

Archive looks too much like the trash can icon, easy to confuse -- especially since they're right next to each other.

Can the Archive button be moved after the Tag button? This is a more logical group for it to be in. Trash and Span should be their own group.

I posted on this issue also. The icons are too similar which causes mistakes.

The icons look too similar leading to missteps. My intended trash becomes archived sometimes. It is too small of a detail to force users to slow down and pay attention to compared to the hard work we are already focused on. Customer service guidelines and art guidelines would say: fix it to smooth user process experience. Please do.

Lol, with the latest update, the trash icon and archive icon have changed...to look even more similar to each other! 🤣 It doesn't look like we're going to get our wish any time soon. Maybe the icon options available for trash and archive were extremely limited and these were the best ones.

In the web interface. The archive button is visually out of style with the other buttons. There also needs to be seperation between DELETE __ ARCHIVE __ SPAM i.e. NOT like current: DELETE.ARCHIVE.SPAM (far to close together). Any negative action (del/spam) should be spatially disassociated to a high degree from other actions.
v3.16.61[external comparison example: Android Gmail App has bad design. "Block sender" right under "Mark unread" in message menu.... insanity!]

The menu item icons (Trash and Archive) look very similar and are placed right next to each other on the shortcut menu. It is quite simple to inadvertently hit the wrong one when moving an item to either Trash or Archive.
Either change the icons or provide some separation on the shortcut menu to minimize user error.

Replace it with something else.
I'm on the beta version 👌

This has been one of my (and others') main gripes when using ProtonMail (beta v33).
I'm constantly verifying whether the green notification popup says "Conversation moved to Trash" or "… to Archive" to make sure I did in fact press the correct UI button.
This desire to verify my performed actions is worsened by the fact the Trash button is not always in the same position (sometimes it's the "Move to inbox" button).
I find it unnecessarily confusing that these "smart" contextual buttons keep dancing around on my screen. You could argue to use the keyboard shortcuts, but I find myself making mistakes with them too (such as beginning to type and not being focused in the message popup). That's the worst.
Please ProtonMail, people have been giving similar feedback on the trash icon and icons in general for many years now. We need some UX improvement to them. Some ideas:
- Color: This would really help with making the buttons easy to identify, rendering the icon choices not as important. Green: move to inbox, Orange: spam, Red: Deletion. Maybe you're reluctant to add color as it ruins your muted purple look, but why not at least allow us the option via the settings, or make it so that color is only displayed when hovering over / pressing the button. The notifications could also display the icon to further help >quickly< identify what the message was about.
- The icons themselves have been a poor choice for a long time now too. Both the Trash and the Archive button look much too similar, and even the Move to inbox button is square.
- Be less smart: show a select number of buttons on every folder (Inbox, Archive, Trash, <tag>, …), and simply gray them out when they are unavailable. Everything else can be listed under the "Move to" drop-down menu as usual.
- Better logically group the icons. Such as the Trash and Spam being next to each other, or include more vertical separators so that the more impactful actions (e.g. deletion) are separated from the simpler ones.
Really hope to see at least some improvement in this area. There's a compromise that can be made and still keep your sleek look. Just give it some thought.

Je suis d'accord, les icônes « Déplacer vers la corbeille » et « Archiver » sont vraiment similaires ET voisines, il est très facile de les confondre et de mettre à la corbeille une conversation que l'on souhaite archiver.

I like the bolder presentation of labels in the beta version. Could you also make the ARCHIVE and TRASH icons bolder and more distinctive? Currently they are rather similar - they are both a small box with a lid on top.

I have hit the trash icon many times while trying to archive e-mails. You are right. They need to be separated.
