Proton Pay - credit / debit card alias
Replacement to GooglePay or ApplePay.
To elaborate, a wallet that can link PayPal, credit cards (then create virtual card numbers so that the real card number is not actually exposed). It would be a cool bonus to see and manage recurring payments and such too.

This, paired with NFC tokenized transactions, would be hugely helpful additions to the Proton portfolio. It’d provide double coverage for smart device payments, between the token and virtual CC. And the virtual CC would be great for online shopping.

Virtual cards with a service like “Privacy” would be valuable to only use Proton services.

Integrating with service like Privacy.com with Proton Pass for virtual credit‑card creation and storage so virtual credit cards can be created and saved when a website prompts to enter payment details.

I’d love to see Proton Wallet expanded with a new feature: ProtonPay, a private alternative to Apple Pay / Google Pay. This should be technically possible, since mobile platforms are now opening NFC access to third parties – for example, Apple recently enabled providers like SumUp and PayPal to use the NFC chip on iPhones, and Android devices have already allowed third-party wallets to integrate with NFC payments for some time.
Here’s how it could work:
- Add existing payment methods: Users can add bank cards or payment services (PayPal, Wise, Revolut, Sparkasse, Klarna, etc.) to Proton Wallet, verified by their providers.
- Proton Card (virtual): Proton Wallet could provide a private “Proton Card” (with a card number, PIN, CVC/CVV/CID/CVC2/CVV2, expiration date, etc.), acting as a bundled card. This Proton Card could combine multiple balances automatically – e.g., using €3 from PayPal + €4 from another card to complete a €7 purchase.
- Account-bound security: The Proton Card would be strictly tied to the Proton Account and Wallet. Card information could only be accessed inside Proton Wallet itself, never sent by email or exposed externally. To view card details (e.g., for manual entry), the user would need to unlock with FaceID/biometrics. The card cannot be imported into another wallet or Proton account, ensuring it cannot be stolen or reused elsewhere.
- Tap-to-Pay integration: Just like Apple Pay, users could double-press the power button, confirm with FaceID/biometrics, and pay instantly – but without exposing card details to Big Tech.
- Peer-to-peer payments: Proton Wallet could allow Tap-to-Pay between Proton users. Example: if a friend cannot send via IBAN, they could just transfer directly via ProtonPay by tapping phones, with funds routed to your chosen account.
- Privacy shield: The Proton Card would act as an extra privacy layer, hiding your real payment details and making it easier and safer to pay both online and offline.
This would turn Proton Wallet into a complete, privacy-first payment hub – combining security, convenience, and user control in one place.

Is it possible to also earn points back on categories using credit card alias? I.e my Amex Gold earns 4x points on takeout orders. I want my alias to earn the same amount of points back.

I really don't understand why you would add a feature that directly interferes with privacy. Wouldn't it be better to create some kind of petition for the government to allow payments in cryptocurrency as well?

Where I saw a person ask for Proton bringing a Digital bank I would prefer to add my current banking cards and credit / debit cards to a wallet like apple wallet and google wallet. I would also love to get "Customer Rewards Cards" options to add to the wallet.

At proton's scale, I doubt it will happen, proton would have to partner with a bank in basically every country, and not every country has the same banking laws, in Switzerland, banks can't even tell the Swiss government if someone was committing fraud, vs (ignoring places like china and such) in the US, banks have no federal regulation on who they can and can't share data with(depends state to state).
My suggestion is to just try to find a bank in your country that offers VCNs and is more private.

This is the next step towards a privacy suite like Proton, together with a profile and phone aliasing.

Being able to use virtual cards would be very useful because not only would it add security, it would also add a easy “one-click-unsubscribe” to subscriptions, making it simple, just like mailing lists unsubscriptions have one-click unsubscribe.

I would love to have Proton Pay! Especially since apple just recently opened up NFC to third party developers. If you could make similar functionality to privacy.com or even just buy privacy.com and allow people to tap to pay with their phones without revealing their real card number that would be amazing! I'd also love the capability to have burner cards.
