1. Proposal for Integrating NFC Cards into ProtonWallet

   TLDR: A secure, privacy-focused, and open-source digital wallet alternative is needed to address concerns over transaction tracking and data privacy/security in mainstream wallets like GPay and Apple Wallet, with ProtonWallet potentially filling this gap.

   Personal experiences, such as discovering transaction tracking in Apple Wallet and being restricted from installing alternative wallets, have highlighted the need for a solution that prioritizes user control and data protection. Similarly, issues with installing GPay on operating systems like /e/OS have further emphasized the importance of having a reliable and flexible digital wallet option.

   ProtonWallet, as a potential solution, can increase its use cases and become more relevant by addressing these concerns. By providing a secure and private digital wallet experience, ProtonWallet can align with ProtonMail's goal of increasing privacy and user control. This can be achieved by:

   • Offering a open-source platform that allows users to manage their transactions and data securely
   • Providing features that prioritize user anonymity and data protection
   • Allowing users to install and use the wallet on a variety of operating systems and other privacy-focused platforms
   • Expanding the wallet's functionality to support a wide range of payment methods and use cases, such as online transactions, contactless payments, and peer-to-peer transfers

   By filling this gap in the market, ProtonWallet can become a leading alternative to mainstream digital wallets, providing users with a secure, private, and flexible solution for managing their financial transactions. 2. Not Just Crypto

   Last time I checked, Proton Wallet was exclusively for Crypto. That's 100% useless to me. A wallet app needs to store credit/debit cards and allow for relatively simple access to these cards from a phone or watch -- Google, Apple and Samsung all provide this and as I result, I must utilize one or more of them instead of dropping them for Proton. Storing loyalty cards would be a plus, but not nearly as important as actual money cards, whether physical or virtual. If this feature is not planned to be offered, the app should be renamed to something that indicates what it actually is as opposed to "wallet," since I, and many others around the world, carry real-world payment devices in our real-world wallets, not virtual money.

3. Create a Proton Card holder like Google Wallet

   It would be really good to have something similar to Google Wallet, so that you can put all your member cards and credit cards if you like and pay with the app.

   Google Wallet also have a feature to add train tickets, and even more and that would be awesome but not required at the start.

4. Support Monero

   Currently the wallet only supports Bitcoin. Please add support to a more privacy oriented blockchain. Monero seems to be the recommended.

   But not everyone has it. Is it possible to create or improve the current application so that we can effectively store our loyalty cards, library, sports center, driver's license, professional card...?

7. Additional security with a PIN or password in Windows, such as Proton Pass

   I often have ProtonMail and ProtonCalendar open in Windows, but I don't want anyone around me (children, colleagues) to have unrestricted access to my finances.
   Similar to how additional security works in ProtonPass, where you enter a PIN or password.
   Additional protection works for ProtonWallet on mobile phone by locking it with biometrics.

8. Store fiat currencies

   Proton Wallet should support storing fiat currency such as GBP, EUR and USD.

   Of course these currencies could not be stored in the same way as crypto, but it would be amazing to be able to store them with Proton.

   Having the ability to create and use virtual cards from Proton would go very well with this.

15. Proton Wallet - Tracking balance/transactions outside of Proton Wallet

    It would be great to have the ability to track bitcoin transactions/balances outside of proton. For instance, if someone is running a bitcoin node and using Sparrow Wallet, we should have the ability to add the xpub which derives all the possible addresses used to see the balance and transactions of bitcoin. I like Bitcoin Wallet, but the limitation options with it does not make you want to put too much in it. If contacted, i can provide a screenshot of what other wallets would need to track the transactions/balances. In this situation, we don't need the seed phrase. This is just to track as a read only, not to actually transact.

16. Proton Pay - credit / debit card alias

    Replacement to GooglePay or ApplePay.

    To elaborate, a wallet that can link PayPal, credit cards (then create virtual card numbers so that the real card number is not actually exposed). It would be a cool bonus to see and manage recurring payments and such too.

20. Integration of mPOS NFC Contactless Payments [via DMA/HCE] into Proton Wallet

    Description:

    Currently, Proton Wallet focuses on the secure management of digital assets and Bitcoin. To bridge the gap between decentralized finance and everyday utility, Proton Wallet must expand into the mPOS (Mobile Point of Sale) space with a focus on traditional payment methods. By leveraging the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) on iOS and HCE (Host Card Emulation) on Android, Proton can offer a "Tap-to-Pay" experience. This allows users to pay at physical terminals by securely linking their Visa, Mastercard, or Debit cards directly to the wallet.
    Unlike mainstream providers, this integration would keep transaction metadata private and outside the surveillance of Big Tech, providing a privacy-first alternative for standard card payments in daily life.

    User Story:

    As a Proton Unlimited user,
    I want to use virtual and physical payment cards (Visa, Mastercard, Debit) managed directly within my Proton Wallet for contactless payments at physical terminals via NFC,
    So that I can replace Google Pay and Apple Pay with a self-custodial, de-googled, and end-to-end encrypted financial ecosystem.

    Acceptance Criteria (AC)

    AC 1: Card Virtualization & Management
    The user can securely link a physical or virtual Visa, Mastercard, or Debit card or a specific crypto sub-wallet to the Proton Wallet. The interface must provide a toggle to "Enable for Tap-to-Pay," allowing the card to be used for contactless payments via the app.

    AC 2: NFC Handshake & Protocol
    The Proton Wallet app must successfully communicate with ISO/IEC 14443 compliant terminals. It must support EMV-standard contactless protocols to ensure global compatibility with existing point-of-sale (POS) infrastructure.

    AC 3: Secure Biometric Gatekeeping
    Every NFC transaction must be authorized via a mandatory biometric challenge (FaceID/Fingerprint) or a Proton Wallet-specific PIN. This ensures that a stolen or unlocked phone cannot be used for unauthorized card payments.

    AC 4: Tokenization & Privacy Shield
    The system must utilize a Token Service Provider (TSP) to ensure that actual card numbers (PAN) are never shared with the merchant. Metadata regarding the purchase must be encrypted and remain private within the Proton ecosystem, shielded from third-party tracking.

    AC 5: Hybrid Offline Payments
    The app must support "Limited Use Keys" (LUKs) stored locally. This allows the user to perform a set number of card transactions without an active internet connection (e.g., in subways or areas with poor reception).

    AC 6: Compliance & Hardware Security
    The implementation must adhere to PCI-DSS and EMVCo standards. Sensitive cryptographic material and card tokens must be stored in the device's Secure Enclave (iOS) or StrongBox/TEE (Android). The app must detect and block execution on compromised (rooted/jailbroken) devices.
