An app to merge other messaging apps (messenger, telegram etc.) and limit their access to our data
Proton messaging app solves only a part of a problem, as we still have to use messenger, telegram, WhatsApp etc, so having an app that would merge them all in one place and most importantly, provide the security against them accessing our data, so that we don't have to install them on our devices on their terms. A secure intermediate app that nests them all in one place.

You might want to check out Beeper. It is using Matrix under the hood and has many of the common chat platforms implemented as bridges. I would say that Proton could implement their own matrix server, but I don't think it's necessary, and I definitely don't think they need to reinvent the wheel here, as Matrix is already serving this purpose quite well. Of course, your privacy is compromised slightly as long as you use those platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.) at all, so trying to convince people in your life to move to alternative platforms, like Signal or Matrix itself for example, is your best bet long term.

You say that Telegram is not secure and doesn't respect privacy?

Very useful if possible at all.
So many messaging apps, too many.
Having Proton Messages would be a great start, uniting multiple platforms to communicate even better.
