Proton VPN

  1. Automatically enable vpn on public or compromised Wifi's

Offer a switch to make Proton VPN automatically connect to its services when it detects that you are connected to a Public or Compromised Wifi.

This can be useful if you don't want the VPN to turn on in your home wifi, but you still want to turn it on when connected to a public wifi.

  2. Please Support Split Tunneling on Linux

Split Tunneling is not currently officially supported for Linux. This feature is a must for me. The ProtonVPN tooling (both cli and gui) is not up to par with the MacOS and Windows counterparts. Please show us that you care about the Linux community.

  3. Static Port forwarding

Please change the dynamic port forwarding to static port forwarding why:

In my BitTorrent client I have +200 torrents, dynamic port is boring because EVERY TIME I connect to a server I have to change the port in the BitTorrent client settings and the re-announcement is really long for all my torrents.

Please add to the ProtonVPN dashboard panel or in the application, the possibility to add static port like MullvadVPN do, example for the ProtonVPN Plus plans add the possibility to add 10 random forwarded ports.

Plus static forwarded port may work if you use the manual configuration: OpenVPN…

  4. [Windows]Custom Encrypted DNS Over HTTPS/TLS.

Currently custom dns field only accepts ipv4 which is plain dns address.
Would be nice to allow the user to use encrypted dns option instead.

  5. Proton VPN vs Private Internet Access Pricing

I have Proton Mail and would like to use Proton VPN. I am currently using Private Internet Access. It's very good and priced more competitively. I would like to use Proton VPN. Thank you

  7. Port Forwarding support for Linux

Port Forwarding is available on Windows (https://protonvpn.com/support/port-forwarding/) but there's no ETA about its availability in Linux.

Creating this specific feature request for Linux support. Feel free to create a copy for MacOS if that's your use case.

  10. Help Ukraine by giving free access to Russian servers

There's a lot of contents that can only be accessed inside Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine. I think it would be great from a PR prospective if ProtonVPN includes Russian servers in the the basic plan, as it will help everyone get a better idea of what's going on inside Russia. On top of that it could save countless civilian lives.

  11. Add a built in kill switch

Using the native android kill switch is alright, except for 2 major issues. First of all, you cannot connect to lan devices with kill switch enabled, and split tunneling does not work. Implementing a kill switch inside the app like a few vpns do, for example Surfshark, would fix these 2 issues.

  13. Support for proxy function from OpenVPN

Please add the ability to set proxies to connect to the protonvpn.com domain and it's api. This is the only way to get VPN working again in countries where the government blocks ip addresses of VPN servers. I checked this manually through OpenVPN, which you have in your connection options

Display the forwarded port number in the quick menu of ProtonVPN in the icon tray.

Currently, there is only the server name and IP address displayed. Please add the forwarded port number too.

  18. Transform Proton VPN to Proton SPN

I discover that future is SPN and not VPN and I think Proton need to go in this direction. You can discover what is SPN here : https://safing.io/blog/2020/01/22/how-the-spn-compares-to-vpns/

    Please think about it.

  20. Compression as an option

It was disabled to protect against VORACLE attack. VORACLE is difficult to carry out in practice, therefore I don't see a reason for disabling compression completely without an option to keep it working. Compression can be very useful for users running 3G connection or a limited transfer connection.
