Linux client as a Flatpak
As Flathub is available in most distros it would make sense to publish the linux client as a Flatpak. And in addition with groving numbers in immutable distros, Flatpak is the prefferred method to install software.

Proton VPN is solid on Linux, but a Flatpak version is long overdue. It would make installation so much cleaner across different distros. This is definitely the best way to reach the broader Linux community.

A Flatpak version would definitely make Proton VPN more accessible across different Linux distributions, especially with the rise of immutable systems where universal packages are preferred.
Having a consistent installation method could also reduce compatibility issues and simplify updates. It’s similar to how users look for flexible install options in apps or even games like https://shadofight2apk.com/, where ease of access plays a big role in user experience. -

I think it's better to make ProtonVPN in the AppImage format. Then it will run on any distribution.

No absolutely not. First of all not every distro supports flatpak so you're forcing users to install bloat.
Second of all, AppImages solved the issues with program packaging already. Just provide an appimage, no need to mess around with yet another solution with your already strained resources.
Proton Team, do not waste your time with this one. Next people on the snap community will ask for a snap. etc. etc.
This packaing nonsense conflict is constantly discussed in the linux community. Save yourself the hassle. -

Linux distributions like secureblue which try to make Linux desktop as secure as possible suggest only using flatpaks and only show verified flatpaks by default.

Adding onto this as an refugee from the spyware known as Windows 11.
When mint is presented as the only windows-like option, and those of us who need easy of use (as I am not trying to teach my parents or grandparents how to use the terminal, but who know how to teach them use a VPN application and download an app store app) a flatpak is really the only option for mass adoption.
It's like watching the Iphone come out, and then as a company choosing to refuse to use the app store and instead force side loading. It's how you kill a product at launch.

I recently switched to Bazzite because Windows 11 was just too annoying for me. However, I really miss the split tunneling feature, which isn’t available in the unofficial Flatpak version of Proton VPN app. It’d be fantastic if Proton VPN could release an official Flatpak version of the app with full feature support.
By the way, I’ve noticed that more and more non-techie people are also moving to Bazzite lately, mainly because they're fed up with Windows, and Steam runs perfectly there anyway, so improved support may be good

Soon all Linux desktop software will be published as Flatpak.

Yes, please do an official Flatpak. The AUR whatnot seems inconsistent.
