  1. Port Forwarding support for Linux

Port Forwarding is available on Windows (https://protonvpn.com/support/port-forwarding/) but there's no ETA about its availability in Linux.

Creating this specific feature request for Linux support. Feel free to create a copy for MacOS if that's your use case.

  2. Static Port forwarding

Please change the dynamic port forwarding to static port forwarding why:

In my BitTorrent client I have +200 torrents, dynamic port is boring because EVERY TIME I connect to a server I have to change the port in the BitTorrent client settings and the re-announcement is really long for all my torrents.

Please add to the ProtonVPN dashboard panel or in the application, the possibility to add static port like MullvadVPN do, example for the ProtonVPN Plus plans add the possibility to add 10 random forwarded ports.

Plus static forwarded port may work if you use the manual configuration: OpenVPN…

  3. Add Stealth Support to the Linux Client

    Hey Proton Team,

Please implement this so it can be integrated into other projects, such as OpenWRT.

  4. [Windows]Custom Encrypted DNS Over HTTPS/TLS.

Currently custom dns field only accepts ipv4 which is plain dns address.
Would be nice to allow the user to use encrypted dns option instead.

  6. Please re-build ProtonVPN Linux GUI app with Qt Framework

Hi! I like the ProtonVPN GUI app on Linux. It has so many good features.

But I think that the choice of GTK was a mistake. This framework is just one large piece of garbage - from both points of view - devs and user experience.

    1. Most serious, quality and useful apps for Linux (about 90%) are uses Qt Framework.

    2. GTK is unpopular. Every year more and more existing Linux software are rewritten with Qt Framework. It's stable and gives better look'n'feel experience.

    3. GTK development is chaotic. The developers themselves don't know what they want. It looks like that GTK…

  7. Please stop connecting Unlimited accounts to the Free VPN servers

I pay for VPN, so why am I being connected to the Free servers when using the Random option? Doesn't make any sense, because the Free servers don't have the same options as the paid for ones, so why am I being connected to them when I have paid for an Unlimited account? Please allow paying users to OPT OUT of being connected to the Free servers.

  8. Running Count for Netshield (Blocked Ads, Trackers, Malware)

It would be great to have a simple counter for how many Ads, Trackers, and Malware NetShield has saved you from for a certain period of time. It could be the last 24 hours, the last week, or maybe since you last connected to ProtonVPN. And it doesn't have to be anything fancy or cluttered, just a simple "NetShield has blocked 10,000 Ads/Trackers since X date." would be great.

A similar function (with a counter) exists for the DuckDuckGo browser on Android, but can't run with ProtonVPN connected. It's nice to know that the feature is working, and I think…

  12. unprotected network alert should have quick connect button

It's nice to get a popup, but first I have to click 'ok' and then go to protonvpn and click 'quick connect'.

Can we please have a button on the alert that lets us directly connect?

    I'm using the macos client.

  13. High Latency When Connecting to Santiago Server with ProtonVPN from Lima, Peru

    Dear ProtonVPN technical support,

I am writing to request your assistance with an issue I am experiencing when using your VPN service to connect to a server located in Santiago, Chile.

I am currently located in Lima, Peru and I have a FTTH connection with Claro Peru. However, when I try to connect to the server in Santiago using my regular internet connection, I experience latency of around 170ms. After running a traceroute, I believe that the issue is due to the routing of the data, as it appears to be going through Miami, Florida before returning to South America.

  14. improve dock icon to coincide with vpn status

on the macos dock the icon has 2 colour status; illuminated when connected, greyed when disconnected (from vpn).

when the app is completely closed the dock icon looks the same as the illuminated state suggesting the vpn may be active.

could we rethink the colours so that when the app is closed it matches the icons disconnected status.

    ie
app closed / disconnected = vpn off [grey]
app open / disconnected = vpn off [grey]
app open / vpn connected = vpn on [illuminated]
... or something along those lines

  15. When I click on a country, do not reconnect to the same node

From the toolbar app, when I click "UK" whilst already connected to the UK, I should be reconnected to a different UK server.

At the moment it disconnects from the VPN and then reconnects to the very same UK node.

The reason I want to change VPN is because there's some issue with the particular node I'm connected to. (In fact, if a user is doing what I've described, you should record it as an issue with the server in question.) Reconnecting to the same server just reconnects me to a server that I know doesn't work, and am actively…

  17. Add criteria options for Quick Connect

The "Quick Connect" button connects to the fastest available server; however, not all servers are made equal. If I want to connect to the fastest server that supports streaming, P2P, or Tor (or some combination thereof), then I have to go to the server list and manually compare available servers, then pick the one that is best. This is especially concerning with P2P, since even different servers in the same region don't consistently support it, and there's no easy way to see the supported features of the server you're connected to without finding it in the server list.

    It would…

  18. Make systemd dependency optional.

ProtonVPN NetworkManager Library has a hard dependency on systemd-python [https://github.com/ProtonVPN/protonvpn-nm-lib/issues/18].

    I'm upgrading ProtonVPN-CLI and packaging ProtonVPN-GUI in GNU Guix [https://issues.guix.gnu.org/59246], which doesn't have/use systemd.

Could you please make the systemd optional or make seatd [https://git.sr.ht/~kennylevinsen/seatd] an alternative option?

  19. Support multiple peers via Wireshark connection

All client peers have a 10.2.0.2 IP set by default so multiple peers sharing one VPN server are not supported.

In other words - at the moment we cannot connect two devices via Wireshark to their own "Virtual Private Network".

  20. Require login each time Proton VPN launches, as an option

When signing in to Proton VPN it automatically remembers the user session.

This is great for convenience, but bad for security (if you want it really strict).

The session even allows upgrading/downgrading one's account.

My proposal is simply this: to add an option to require password (or two factor authentication or something similar) on each application launch.

Users may keep this disabled if they prefer the convenience of remembering the login, but for those who really doesn't want any access to their Proton VPN without their explicit authorization.
