.heic
Hi,
I hope you are having a blessed day. Recently ran into a conversion issue for heic. I know a lot of customers use iphone's and based on the transfer of pictures it would be amazing if you added support to preview heic within your own amazing email product. This would save a lot of time (maybe even the ability to convert to jpeg when it notices a attachment).

WAIT—I trawled through this forum to try to find if anyone else was having a similar ongoing issue to me, as an ios & ipadOS app user.
might THIS be the reason why whenever I attach photos I’ve taken on my iphone to an email on the proton app (via: import from photo library), I will say “please see attached” and although I can see the attached photos, the receiver gets back to me saying that there were no attachments??!?!?
My workaround this year has been uploading photos from my camera roll to the ios files app, and then trying to attach via importing from files.
But I didn’t realise that any photos that I’ve been doing this with (taken from an iphone, where .heic seems to have been default for a while), over the past ~1 year may have not ever been received by any of the email’s recipients!!!!
I really wish that proton could officially clarify what the deal is with .heic file compatibility is, both on proton mail (app & and web), and any of the other proton services (from what I can gather from the comments section).
This means that I can at least know that any .heic photo attachments should go through a .jpg converter first in the meantime, and that I don’t need to worry about .jpg, .jpeg, .png photo file formats not being sent through the ios photo library import, via proton mail app.
I have literally been creating new google drive shared folders (google bleh) to send a link to email recipients out of fear that the photos may have disappeared from the attachments without me having any clue……that and avoiding sending images over proton mail on apple apps, exporting from my photo library to my phone’s files, and other convoluted ways to try troubleshoot, since at least a year ago now.
Can proton PLEASE provide some clarity so we can find workarounds if it’s not actionable, or if there will be a delay in adding .heic compatibility, which would be very understandable! I just wanna know what is sending/what disappears :”(

I have lot of photos in .heic format which can't display at all in my proton drive photos. It would be amazing if you could support this extension too. Thanks for your work

Just moved over 1000 photos from google to proton drive....and no preview available.
It's a pity, please support .heic preview cause it's a widely adopted format -

HEIC is the default for iOS photos. This is a critical need for usability whether as the primary user or sharing files/photos with friends and family.

It would be great to have the possibility to change the Proton drive Photo upload function.
Using an iPhone i have trouble with .heic uploaded to drive and using it e.g on a windows client system.
Please give me a Option like on Dropbox to auto convert heic to jpg. Also there should be a second option to only upload new photos not the whole library other wise it starts uploading 20k images once I change my phone.

Proton, Thank you for giving us the iOS App but really could use support for .HEIC and other Apple formats. Without this support to be viewed on the web browser or in the app this all becomes very UN-usable. I would rather support Proton vs Google or Microsoft!

When uploading pictures from iOS to proton drive it’s uploading the HEIC file. When I want to share images in full quality over my drive instead of a messaging service they also receive the HEIC format.
Since a lot of my friends use android it’s very complicated for them to use or impossible. It would be nice to have the option to convert them if possible for easier sharing.

I mostly use Drive to back up my pictures and videos from mobiles and cameras. Without the support for heic and hevc, I can only see an empty box, which makes the Drive quite unusable. The same is the situation with MP4 videos.

Photos and videos taken with a phone (Samsung) in the more modern HEIC format (rather than JPG), as well as videos in HEVC (rather than AVC), cannot be played on Proton Drive web and Proton Drive Android.
They only ever play in the Photos section when photos and videos are automatically backed up (Andorid).
Thank you.

Please vote for the Proton Photos suggestion which has more traction that just HEIC support.
https://protonmail.uservoice.com/forums/932839-proton-drive/suggestions/45569155-proton-photos
This is needed to use Proton Drive for photo backup from iPhone.
