Increased view density option
Coming from Gmail, I am used to having three options for display density- Default, Comfortable and Compact. In Proton, the compact option still leaves too much space both in the LH folder/tag pane, and in the email listing. I suggest adding another density option. Since Compact is already used, the choice of Default may need to be added and then increase the density on the two existing options.

Please add a "Super Compact" density option to the settings pane in Proton Mail desktop app. There are many folks who need to see more messages in the list than the current options offer. The current "Compact" view has messages spaced too far apart, wasting screen space, to be technically referred to as "compact". Please make a *real legitimate* compact view by either modifying the existing to single spaced, or add a new option for Super Compact. Thank you!

I agree there is far too much whitespace between folders/labels in the left-hand column in Compact view.
This should be reduced in the EXISTING Compact setting (regardless of whether a 3rd view is added as the OP suggests), because at present the label/folder spacing in the Compact view is exactly the same as in Comfortable!

There is far too much whitespace between FOLDERS AND LABELS in the "Compact" view!
At present, the density of the list of folders and labels in "Compact" is exactly the same as it is in "Comfortable".
This seems like a design oversight, and also means that far too few folders or labels can be created before it becomes necessary to vertically scroll the leftmost column.
Switching to "Compact" should reduce the row height of folders and labels, not just e-mails. One can assume that if someone is switching to compact mode because he has many e-mails, then it is likely that he also has many folders and labels.

I'd like more emails to be visible on the page. The current compact layout seems pretty wide to me.

HUGE bump for this.
Google's most compact size gives me at least a dozen more rows of visibility.
Additionally, and not sure if should be a separate request: please let me keep my icons even when the rows are compacted. I love that visual cue.

The current "compact" density option is not very compact when compared with Gmail's. In comparison, Proton Mail's email row height is 46px while Gmail's is 28px. And the folder/label height on proton is 36px while on Gmail it's 20px.
It would be nice if the "compact" option was closer to Gmail's density (or if there were a third option for this).
