The feature you're requesting be removed provides two-stage security. Your Proton Pass account can't be compromised without hacking it, but making the change you requested would make it a more achievable target for attackers.

I agree that I want to secure Proton Mail long with Proton Pass (instead of the other way around).

Excellent idea, especially if the proposed option to keep Proton Pass open until your system locks isn't done. Very annoying to have to open it ever hour (or more frequently, depending on what option is selected.)

- my Proton account password is strong and stored in Proton Pass
- in order to log in Proton Pass, I need my proton password AND the Authenticator
- in order to open Authenticator, I need my proton password...

I rarely write but I support this idea, dedicated password for Pass is surely nice but the fact that to access you have to login in you proton account means that at work anybody can just open proton mail on my browser and see everything, this should not be allowed.
An alternative solution could be to let the user set an optional pin on Proton Mail similary to Proton Pass.

I would also like to see individual Proton services such as Proton Pass work without the account login.

This would give a separate Proton Pass password much more weight, especially with security keys such as U2F/FIDO2!

i need separate password to log in for example at library or family pc without huge risk to compromising entire proton account. passwords for separate proton services have to be easily swappable on the suspection of login to a compromised network

Users need a next level privacy layer - a standalone password.
PPass should be separated from the main ecosystem account with different password or even login too, but somehow linked to the main acc. So if the main acc would be compromised the password vault won't be affected and also payed customers could enjoy benefits of subscription

I agree with this. From a security/privacy standpoint it's nuts to have one password for both Proton Mail and Proton Pass!

I was surprised to learn that Proton Support can reset the extra password (confirmed by their support team), while the recovery phrase cannot be used to reset it. This indicates that the extra password is not part of the end-to-end encryption process, but rather functions as an additional authentication step. It would be helpful if this were clearly explained next to the option to enable the extra password.

I also support the feature request mentioned here: it would be greatly appreciated if Proton Pass offered a true separate password that is used both for authentication and encryption.
