Being able to create custom folders
You seem to believe that the ability to add folders is "Completed" by telling people to use labels. Color labels just don't cut it.
All the emails will still reside in my inbox or archive. Every other internet email service offers the option to create custom folders, why not Protonmail? This issue has come up again and again from the start.

IF I had realized that ProtonMail does not even offer its sub$cribers an option to to set up Custom FOLDERS (with, of course, sub-folders) I certainly would NOT have signed on for year's sub$cription. It is absurd -- and beyond annoying -- that PM has continued to insist that its sub$cribers have no need for the Custom FOLDERS & Subfolders that we've begged -- b/c ProtonMail says that we can instead make do with its a clumsy & time-wasting mix of Labels + Archiving.
To date over a thousand votes have been cast by ProtonMail users TRYING to persuade PM to provide Custom FOLDERS (and Subfolders and preferably relate Filters), but PM's eventual replies have been surprisingly clueless & patronizing. PM's unresponsive responses suggest [1] that somehow we cu$tomers just don't really understand what WE need to easily manage OUR emails and [2] that PM's still sticking with its original decision not to offer PM's cu$tomers the handiest organizational tools -- the custom folders & related filters -- that almost all other webmail companies provide.
This deficiency is a DEAL-BREAKER for many of us who sub$cribed to ProtonMail without first trying it out. When my sub$cription runs out, I won't renew it if PM still precludes Custom Folders, Sub-folders & some basic Filtering Rules. (Thankfully I did not prematurely drop my other webmail service.)
KUDOS to the posters here who smartly decided that they won't sub$cribe UNLESS ProtonMail first corrects the deficiency (whether or not PM concedes that it IS a deficiency). And everyone I've warned about PM's NoCustomFolders credo has also taken that wiser wait-and-see position. (I'd initially praised PM's privacy & encryption features to many people, BEFORE I discovered its odd credo and soon tired of try to make do with labelling & archiving.)
Sorry for length of this exasperated post.

I'm really happy with Protonmail, but the lack of folders is very annoying. Labels work for some things, but are no solution for cleaning up your inbox. The possibility to move mails to custom folders is a simple feature, but makes a huge difference.
It would be appreciated a lot if you could implement custom folders. Thank you. -

For me, so far, the labels feature seems to work well, in much the same way as folders.
-Best to you in 2017.

It's the only thing stopping me from signing up to a paid account. I stopped using Gmail for the same reason.

Folders, folders, folders, folders, folders, and perhaps some folders?

I love the statement from protonmail: "For custom folders, ProtonMail supports Labels." I humbly think there is a semantics problematic: if "Labels" were and meant "Folders" they would have been called "Folders". Which is not.
I still don't understand why this basic feature is not implemented. I am on 12 months subscription and will leave if this required by many feature will not be implemented. I wonder actually why it was not implement din the first place: just checking competition -

Here another (new) user asking for folders. Who also thinks it should be a default feature for all plans, not only for the premium ones, as some people suggest. Because, as others already said, nowadays it's just the basic setup of any email service.
Dear Protonmail developers and admins, what are you thinking about all of this requests of ours? would you kindly let us know if it's in your plans or not, and in case why? A comment from you would be much appreciated, given the interest about this topic.
Thank you.

Why not implement the same setup like Operas M2 client. All mails reside in the "all mail box" and then "folders" are basically filters that show mails that fit. This way you can have the same mail show up in several "folders" in case it fits them. It was an amazing way to sort e-mail.

I wonder how a discussion is even ongoing on this one. Labels are not folders. Fullstop. Folders/sub-folders are the standard for any mail provider...there must be a reason, right?
I am trying protonmail for the next year, if folders are not appearing I will leave. -

Yes agree - can you not simply label it and it goes into what basically is a folder. This is rather confounding. The only reason I can imagine using label and archive to clear the inbox is to move the email to its label (or old fashioned folder) then archive which could be exported for archive, or simply retained as a record of everything ever.

Would at least like individual folders for each address so that all my mail isn't smashed together.

I immediately paid for the Plus subscription without even testing this service. I regret it. It's so basic to have folders I did not think I had to check it out. Folders is an absolute must. I need to have folders to clear out my email inbox. To have to individually move things to the archive is a waste of my time.

The lack of folders is a fundamental flaw; the random listing of labels compounds this serious omission.

I wish to clarify and support the need for "custom folders". To me, custom folders means being able to create folders AND SUB-FOLDERS, using names of my choosing.
This is such a basic content management tool that I am disappointed that I even have to post this.

I just purchased an email account for my small business and just learned I can't create subfolders! Between that and no IMAP/POP support, I might be cancelling the day I signed up :(

Protonmail remains useless for me without folders. Having people looking over your shoulder and seeing ALL your mail correspondence is anything but private!
Why does it take so long to introduce this so much needed feature, is there a problem with security when you add folders? -

Protonmail seems to have their mind quite made up about this feature according to this suggestion: http://alturl.com/qftzn where they refer to this kb: http://alturl.com/ef6yf. But just in case they might change their mind about it, I suggest everyone move their vote to the suggestion with the most votes (and that hasn't been marked as "Complete") which seems to be this one: http://alturl.com/t8ef4
