IMAP/SMTP + TLS support
Multi support are needed for heavy mail client (Outlook/Thunderbird/Evolution etc...)
Web access only is too limited
The ProtonMail Bridge supports IMAP/SMTP support for desktop clients: https://protonmail.com/blog/thunderbird-outlook-encrypted-email/

At this time the better solution for having a good security is to use PGP/keys with a client like Thunderbird and any e-mail account. The objectives of ProtonMail is quite different : this is a webmail with high security. no more. So any IMAP/POP feature is inappropriate here.

Impossible to do with the security model of Protonmail. If you would understand how Protonmail works, you wouldnt be asking for stupid things like this.
If you dont like the Protonmails security model, then go back to Gmail and stay there.

This is a must have feature!!! Create their own iOS/Android app to encrypt messages at the device level. We MUST be able to get our mail on our phones.

Please add some sort of a mail app, and if it may be just an encrypted container that downloads the mails from your servers each time it launches, I would be perfectly fine with that.

This would require some sort of Mail.app plugin to decrypt the messages like https://gpgtools.org has.

see my comment here https://support.protonmail.ch/knowledge-base/imap-smtp-and-pop3-setup/#comment-202 Before IMAP could be implemented for protonmail, new IMAP version, which would have ability to deal with encrypted inboxes, would need to be developed (and implemented into common mail clients)

IMAP is definitely key feature. Unfortunately, current version of IMAP protocol (even with SSL/TLS) is unsuitable for protonmail, due to lack of features needed to deal with inbox encryption. Read my comment here https://support.protonmail.ch/knowledge-base/imap-smtp-and-pop3-setup/#comment-202 (ignore few spelling errors, please)

Do NOT compromise security for flexibility. It defeats the entire purpose. If you truly want security then you are willing to give up some flexibility.

Yes. I'd prefer to see all my emails in one place, but I have more mail accounts (Gmail, iCloud, etc.) I use. Apple Mail is my primary client, and it supports POP and IMAP, and I would like that support for ProtonMail as well.

that is if you think imap does not fit your sec model, i know this have prolly already been thought of but posting this to suggest that others like me think it might be a viable alternative.

"NOT RECOMMENDED:
Edward Snowden – If you are Edward Snowden, or the next Edward Snowden, and have a life and death situation that requires privacy, we would not recommend using ProtonMail. For extremely sensitive situations, it is simply not a good idea to use email as a medium for communications."

@Jimmy : Hey Guy ! HTTP/HTTPS issues could also breaks Protonmail security
Could you give us some details about IMAP security issues ? Jimmy HTTPS has no more powerfull security than IMAP protocol , in both case ssl is used ! So ?
Nobody will continue using Protonmail with only web access. If you are a cypto dev or IMAP dev could you give us real technicals details ?

Guys, IMAP will not work with ProtonMail. It will simply break all the security features. You might as well continue with gmail, yahoo etc. and install GPG into Thunderbird or wait untill gmail and yahoo implement encryption features, that's supposed to happen this year. ProtonMail can only securely work as is now. I use GPG and Thunderbird with gmail, yahoo etc. and it's a major pain in the butt explaining 'private' 'public' keys to my contacts and they still 'don't get it'.

I understand very little about how the web-based Proton security model works, and if IMAP support would undermine it, then I guess IMAP is out, since security comes first. However, I have to agree that without IMAP support Proton is looking at a pretty small user base, and it certainly makes it less usable for me, not unusable, but less usable.

@Joel Dueck first i don't understand your logic... Protonmail has no futur without IMAP features, i will be just for nerds with only web acces and it is a useless model. Protonmail can have security model with IMAP-SMTP/TLS
Second, IMAP is linked with properly folders organization

Keep ProtonMail separate and secure.

The whole security model of Protonmail prevents IMAP support. It's not just that they encrypt server-side; it's that the whole mailbox is one encrypted chunk of data that can only be decrypted on the client side. There is no way for IMAP to deal with this. If you want IMAP support go use normal email. Or Protonmail can add IMAP support by scrapping all their security work and go back to being just another email provider. You can't have both.
