Minimize desktop app to system tray
Ability to minimize Proton Mail Desktop app to the system tray (notification area) to keep it from taking up space on the taskbar.
Icon in notification should show unread message count.

For me, having the app go to the system tray, and auto-start on windows startup are essential. If this does not happen, I might as well just open a tab in my browser, because I have already bookmarked it.

Why even make a desktop client if it can't auto start with windows and minimize to tray...? Why does proton ship products missing basic functions and when community brings it up they don't implement them for 5 years?

This is the only reason I haven't switched to the Windows client. Just installed it and couldn't believe that it just closes completely. Guess I'll keep using Thunderbird with Bridge until this becomes a feature.

Why is this taking so long to implement?

I’d like to suggest a few usability improvements for the Proton Mail Desktop App:
1. Minimize to System Tray – Add a setting to minimize the app to the system tray instead of the taskbar/dock when closing or clicking the minimize button.
2. Launch on Startup – An option to automatically launch the app when the system boots.
3. Start Minimized to Tray – A companion option to launch the app directly into the system tray (useful for keeping the app running discreetly).
These features would align the app with common expectations for desktop email clients and improve workflow efficiency. Thanks for considering them!

Also there should be an option for starting the app in the tray so it can be loaded at startup without the window opening everyime.

I think its a shame the mail client has no systray icon feature yet, I use dwm and cannot minimize the app to anywhere else.

The fact that this still hasn't been dealt with tells us all that we need to know...

Would be great to have a minimized startup option with the desktop mail app in the system tray.

This is utterly ridiculous. Here to voice my displeasure that this is STILL not working after all of this time.
Tuta is light years ahead of Proton

It looks like this request is falling on deaf ears.
My renewal comes up in a couple of months and I am forced to rethink paying for premium email without premium features. Please implement this feature !

It should be a priority to implement minimize to taskbar with a badge count. Windows does give notifications as long as the app is open but that just isn't good enough. Act like you care about your app.

I'd love to have this feature to be perfectly honest ... I mean since other apps from your suite (Pass and VPN to be exact) have that option, why not mail

I'm still waiting for proton to add this feature. It would improve the user experience tenfold. I hope they can do it soon because it seems like a lot of people are feeling the same way.

It's crazy that ElectronMail (the unofficial ProtonMail Desktop App) has had this feature for years and Proton still hasn't implemented it.

It's been over a year and we're still waiting.
