Profile picture for ProtonMail users
I know it's currently a bit difficult for an email server to show profile pictures on other email services, but if it's only available to proton users it would be very good, and it would be more business-friendly, without seeming like a strange service

I just wish it would allow me to set a profile picture I choose and set from my contacts list; no need to grab it from an outside source—similar to how Signal allows customization.
I’ve ADHD, visual markers (colouring and photo) are critical to helping with organization.

Optional integration with Gravitar could accomplish this while respecting user privacy.

I manage a few accounts in my family package and a few start with the same letter which means I can't tell them apart. I don't care if other see my profile, but at least have it visible to my own account. On web I have one that at least has to letters, but on Android it is still only the very first character.

I don’t understand how this still isn’t a thing. I mean you can literally set a profile picture on the user voice forum!
Extremely simple to implement yet proton simply refuses. One of the reasons I will not be renewing my premium. -

I have a business account and a private account. At least give me the option to use different colors on the avatars. Currently it's just confusing. I'm in android mobile most of the time

I'm surprised there's absolutely no way to do this yet, even as just a cosmetic change for your own account.
I mean, if you get account confirmation emails, for instance, they use the favicon of the source website as a profile picture---so if they already have such a thing, why not allow it for everyone? Don't Gmail messages do this, too?
It's one of the few things that push me away from using Proton in general, but not so much that I use Google instead lol -

How is this not a feature yet? At this rate there's no way I'm gonna resubscribe to Proton when it expires...

If you have more than one Proton account, a profile picture may help you to differentiate them. Thanks

I also support showing a picture for protonmail users. It's odd that it just shows a white capital letter on a purple background in the spot that looks like it should be a thumbnail for a profile picture.

It is very important that my clients see my profile picture. I recently migrated from Google Workspace to here, and honestly, that feature is a necessity.

My clients, as well as myself, tend to be visually oriented and having the logo next to the message makes for fast finding!

The only way proton can "force" other services to display an image, by web standards, is by using BIMI. However, the BIMI image is displayed for the e-mail domain, not the individual user.
In short:
- if you need this for your business, get yourself a domain name, e.g. @johndoe.com, use proton mail to send from that domain, and set up BIMI.
- if you want this for personal use, put your profile picture everywhere profile pictures are published (gravatar, openID, etc.), associate those with your proton mail account, and hope for the receiving e-mail client to display the image. For specific receivers, you can work around the issue, for example:
- Gmail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb2U5EXO_Eo
- Outlook/Microsoft: sorry, no dice https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1fty4gs/microsoft_outlook_photos_visible_to_external_users/?rdt=59283 -

Agreed. I've just signed up and moved my own-domain email over to Proton from Google Workplace, and I didn't even think to look up before doing so whether profile pictures would be a possibility, because it's 2025. As a freelancer I've put some time into my branding, and my clients now won't be seeing a fair bit of it until this 'feature' gets added to Proton.

It's very nice to have as a business account, even more so for cross-platform emails as a lot of clients may not be proton users

This is an essential feature, especially as someone who uses Proton for my Business.
