Custom subaddressing delimiter for custom domains (plus addressing, email tags, catchall support)
Custom subaddressing delimiter for custom domains (beyond plus addressing)
Allow custom-domain owners to choose the subaddressing delimiter from any RFC-permitted non-alphanumeric symbol allowed in the local-part of an email address (e.g., . - _ + ! # $ % & ' * / = ? ^ \ { | } ~`).
Why:
Plus-addressing and email tagging users rely on tagged addresses for filtering, traceability, and account compartmentalization.
The current + delimiter is widely stripped or rejected by websites and abused by bots and spammers.
Alternative symbols would restore reliable tagging for custom-domain owners, catchall users, and advanced filtering workflows.
Scope:
-Custom domains only
-Domain-level setting controlled by the owner
-Optional support for multiple delimiters per domain
Benefits:
-Improves filtering accuracy, alias tracking, and inbox organization
-Enhances resilience against automated abuse and fake signups
-Provides advanced users with flexible, standards-compliant control without impacting typical users

I've recently been trying which of these were allowed and I was disappointed. But to be honest, if a service provider rejects plussed addresses, they will likely not accept anything else than +-_.[a-zA-Z0-9].
I support giving us the option though.
