Auto delete emails after x days (in inbox and other folders)
Auto delete after x days.....
1) from a Information control point of view, it could be useful to have a maximum life of all mails before being auto deleted;
2) For long term use the space is limited and may fill up, especially if used with large attachments.
Being able to auto-delete emails after x days would help ensure that it does not fill up.
The number of days must be customisable per account as one size will not fit all!

yes, i would like e-mails from notifications@github.com to self-destruct after 1 day

This is an excellent idea, I get many notifications and after about an hour or 2 I don't need to see them. It would be nice to be able to set with the filter self destruct on messages.

i think, this can be achieved by setting this up for user made folders that can have a time sensitive auto delete contents feature, where the older contents inside can be set for a certain time that if they are beyond the allowed date will be auto moved into the trash. this way you can still have another 30days to retrieve them before they are gone permanently.
there is already a way of sorting the emails into folders, its just a matter now of putting custom expiry features for the folders, and of course certain folders can be assigned to never auto remove contents into the trash, by default.
i would use this for newsletters, where i could review the newsletters during the past yr or so, and the older ones will be auto removed into the trash.

Agreed, should be accessible/tie in via the label menu under actions (i.e. "Delete after X days") for things such as newsletters etc.

+1, I imported all my gmail and seen noticeable slow down in the mail.
I am hoping either 1. delete all emails older than x days or 2. put those emails in some kind of cold storage and don't load them unless in some specific situation I needed it.
Thank you

I want the ability to mark/assign an email for deletion after x-time to reduce the amount of time I spend auditing my inbox. If PM is to be my main inbox, then I need tools to manage fire hose of emails received. My preference would be to assign a retention by email and/or sender.
As a use-case, when I purchase an item, I want to keep the receipt for a year but I am happy to delete the promotional/sale emails after 30 days. Some companies use the same sender email for both the receipt and promo emails -- some don't.
Having the ability to setup a filter by sender and assign a retention date/expiration would be very helpful in managing the inbox.

This is the primary feature I'm waiting for to migrate away from Fastmail. I have several filters and folders I use to track things like newsletters, receipts, etc. and I have all of those set up to auto-delete after 365 days.
I would like Proton to add options to auto-delete any folder after 30 days, 90 days, 1 year, 2 years.

Having an Auto-Delete toggle on a folder-by-folder basis would be valuable.

It is critical for the emails that I send to trash to be permanently deleted for a time frame that I specify, such as 30 days. My storage space is filling up and I am ready to get rid of protonmail.

Flag incoming messages to self-destruct with a Filter.
I get a lot of transient notification emails (pickup order is ready, package shipped, etc) that I don't need to keep around forever. I currently go through every so often and clean these out, but it takes time and is kind of a pain.
Adding an action to Filters to set the self-destruct behavior would let me flag senders/subjects and automatically set those to expire after a period of time.

Ability to filter from certain senders to auto delete or send to trash folder after a predetermined time.

I have a script running on my Gmail that keeps it nice and clean, I really need that functionality with Proton! Besides simply 'delete after x days' I can choose to archive, move to a specific folder, add label, etc based on age, read/unread, starred, etc.

I strongly support this idea! Plus: I would like to set a maximum life for emails in a certain folder (for example the trash folder), so that I don't have to bother every day, emptying my trash.

I DEFINITELY WANT THIS FEATURE! I like getting newsletters and updates but don't always have time to read them. So I filter them to folders, but then I only want to keep the L90 days worth. Currently I have to manually delete old emails. It'd be nice to have the option in a filter to delete after 30, 60, 90 days. PLEASE ADD THIS!
