This is urgently needed, and should be at the very top of the feature list.
I'm a paying user and because I'm still waiting for this to be implemented, I find myself regretting my subscription every time I have to comb through my emails manually to find the single one I need. I can't believe we're still waiting for this. Please prioritize this, Proton people!
I can't in good conscience recommend Protonmail to anyone until this is working.

Searching for an elusive email is pretty hopeless, The search engine doesn't seem to do much of a word search. Looking this morning for an email where a friend mentions their motel, no results appeared but when I painstakingly went through his emails I eventually found it and the word motel appeared three times in the message and once in my reply yet the search engine failed to find it.

Yeah, this is such a basic function of email that I can't believe it's not implemented in PM. This really has got to happen!

To be clear, the capability that would be most useful is to be able to search all e-mails (perhaps within a specified date range) to identify and view any e-mails containing the search terms that have been entered.

This is ESSENTIAL, for email text and calendar entries.

YES. Where are you, ProtonMail?

It’s absurd that this has not been implemented in 5 years.
1. Protonmail bills itself as a Gmail alternative. Google’s/Gmail’s strength is search.
2. Email text search is possible for encrypted emails (Tutanota has already done it)
3. Without searchable emails and calendar entries, how are we supposed to use PM for business? how can I search back to the last interactions with my clients?Meanwhile PM re-designs and re-designs its GUI and makes pointless features like ProtonDrive, when I can already get encrypted file storage from Tresorit, Sync.com and others. Or I can use Cryptomator for free.
Protonmail’s priorities are an absolute mess and it makes me furious that I’m paying for it. That might not continue if they don’t implement search for email text. It’s absolutely fundamental. Google replacement my a**.

Currently the search engine is only showing results for the recipients and subject.
It would be very useful that would also work in whole mail content. -

Word search for words in the BODY of an email. Just wasted 20 minutes looking in our four email addresses, when the email I was looking for was in our protonmail account all along.

The search function seems to be lacking. If I search for something in the email subject it is fine, but when I try searching for something in the email contents it doesn't seem to work.

This is by far the most urgently needed feature!

Yes, definitely need this!

Yeah, the search is not very good. Actually pretty poor considering how good ProtonMail is in general. I keep all of my email as a sort of personal record keeping system. An accurate and comprehensive search feature is huge. One reason to stick with Gmail.

It really takes over 5 years to implement capabilities to search email bodies!?
This limits the long-term usability of protonmail. (Really, want to know why gmail initially gained traction...?) -

This feature should be at the top of your priority list, forget drive and the rest, this is a fundamental requirement and will drive people to other providers if not implemented soon.

I'm new to ProtonMail. I generally love it. However, the biggest lack is the ability to search the content of messages. If you can add this feature, I'd be happy to use ProtonMail for lots of things. I just discovered this morning that it cannot search message content, and that is a major negative for me.

I am always facing issues finding some data on my emails
The search field is searching only subject and sender details by.
Why it does not search for entire email for requested text or word? -
Anonymous commented
search feature does not search in the subject nor the body.. that need to improve. thinking of going back to gmail even though it's less secure due to this problem.

I can't believe this feature request does not have more votes !
Efficient search is a basic need for any modern mail system, since Google / Gmail introduced the "search instead of classify" spirit. There are technocal ways of providing search without breaking privacy, with new zero-konwledge algorithms.
