Hello,
APK PURE is a pretty good market (and update ^^) and they have an app to replace Google play (with no account required :) )Protonmail app functioning well when we install it directly from the .APK, but we have a starting pop-up who says => Google Play required, is it possible to left/modifiy the code who required GP?

Make use of the Amazon Store if Play Services are required to be hosted on Play Store. Everything does not have to be Play Service enabled.

Isn't the APK open source ? If not it should be, like the web client is.
If it is, does anyone know where to find it ?

There are various non Google sources for apps used by people who don't enjoy that company being around and with them all the time, e.g. F-Droid (I guess one of the most straight forward ones and possibly the only actual "store" including the ability of updates... Though an exclusive reliance on to one store would be idiotic)
It would indeed be exceptionally appreciateable if it was possible to support further parts of the privacy-concerned community. -

For those on the beta track, isn't this essentially a way around pulling from Google Play Store already?

Would be a wonderful idea. I don't even think that it would even be that hard to do. They can probably can do it when they are not working on pgp encryption! :)

APKmirror is a good choice because only accept signed APKs from original developers

While I wholeheartedly appreciate everything Protonmail stands for, I can't get past the fact that Protonmail doesn't make available an APK download of it's Email app, exclusive from the Google Play store.
AppsAPK.com is a great site for this purpose and would be advantageous for all android users whom already refuse the use of the Google-Monster's services for privacy and security reasons.
I don't care what Google says-------Google and it's CEO are just as culpable for obfuscating our privacy and true security as are any other greedy corporate entity whom requires users to give up their rights to defend and to protect their personally identifiable information simply for the purpose of patting their ad-partners on the back.

This is intrusive and unacceptable behavior from Google and other corporate thugs whom do the same things. When is enough going to be enough of all this ho-ranging hoopla?!
Just because they can hide behind the already obscure nature of the internet is no excuse for their privacy-violating actions and policies, of which they force upon users because they care more about insane profiteering at our expense by watching, stalking and pilfering everything about us and what we do online.
Someone needs to draw a line that these corporate thugs aren't allowed to cross. They're not going to do it-------so we need a voice of reason amid this crisis to stand up for what is right-------to help us protect our identities from these dictatorial corporate entities hell-bent on eviscerating our rights to privacy.

Microsoft is now one of the latest, worst offenders of this by the way in which it has forced Windows 10 on users without permission and by the way in which it's new Privacy policy and ToS aggreements actually grant Microsoft ownership rights to our very own identities. Read the EULA and ToS very carefully and you will see that the language is legally designed to protect Microsoft's exploitation of our personally identifiable information while at the same time making it almost impossible for us to legally defend our rights to protect that which rightfully belongs to us.
Google can sugar-coat its policies all they want, but behind the scenes they do the very same things that Microsoft is guilty of regarding this matter of pivotal importance.

Please, we need a fighting chance against these intrusive violations of our personal lives and we aren't going to get it by continuing to use services from the same companies that continue to violate our rights in this regard!

Thanks for posting the apk on apkmirror. I can confirm that the app seems to work without google play services running, but the app does nag me to enable it. I think I tried it a few months ago and was turned off by the nag to enable google play. I agree with many of the posters here in that any reliance on google services must go away if protonmail is to be taken seriously as a privacy-centric service.

I also do not have Google services on my phone for privacy reasons. It is astounding that protonmail exists to support privacy and does not already provide an alternative download channel for the apk. Even Amazon would be better than Google. Why not just put a link to the apk on your website?

I can only reiterate others comments here, i have contributed financially to this project in the past and i'm considering paying for the service. Consequently it is disquieting to find no apk available.
It is because i value privacy that i have tried to banish every trace of Google from my CyanogenMod phone, equally I don't want to have to download the app from Amazon. I would be really grateful if you'd make the ProtonMail app available either on F-Droid or (better still) directly from the ProtonMail site. True, in the meantime I can check my mail through my mobile browser but it's not as convenient or secure as using the app. Also by making it available you can avoid the more gullible amongst us from downloading apk's from dodgy mirror sites. -

I have the paid service, and it seems ridiculous that this is allegedly secure and encrypted, yet they still use GOOGLE PLAY the largest data, privacy invaders of them all??? makes me question the validity of the service??
the only way you should be able to access the app, is through apk directly from your site.
