Sync the Protonmail contacts with the phone address book (contacts app) and vice versa.

It is one of the key things missing from the others great and greater Proton suite.

absolutely important. i love to have photos alongside my contacts because it feels way more personal to me but everytime i switch phones (or operating systems) i loose all the pictures connected to them.
to clarify: i want to sync phone numbers not email adresses

This is a huge missing piece. Need to be able to sync contacts to my SIM card.

Please prioritize this for Android and iOS - even Tuta has full contact integration.

It would be cool if phone contacts would be saved seperately from email contacts in Proton Mail, with the ability to restore entries that have been modified or deleted by saving history of changes and a recycle bin.
In addition to that, the contact labels in Android can be turned into contact groups in Proton Mail, and birthdays can be integrated in Proton Calendar. -

I also think this is critical. I need contacts in sync between phone and proton mail.
I changed from google for domains to proton.
I'll probably have to use a free gmail account to store contacts.

That’s more than essential, it’s almost vital to a smooth (minimal I’d say..) experience at iOS…
The more integrated to smartphone OS, more people are going to interest… -

critical to replace google contacts. I want my contacts to be in a safe proton space, so that whenever I loose / break my phone or buy a new phone I can get all my contacts from there without depending on wicked middleman Google

This blocks from moving to proton from Google Workspace.

Planned since Jan 2019?!
At this point I would be happy with a deep link that would open a Contacts view in ProtonMail directly. Let me put an icon on my home page that lets me skip a few taps -- as a stopgap until a proper Contacts system is available.

Just checking in on the comment I left two years ago snarkily saying that it's 2023. Well with two years' more snark, I will kindly inform you that it is now 2025 and this feature is still "planned". I cannot count how many features you've released in the meantime, prioritizing them over this one. Makes no sense.

It's honestly quite strange — this request to sync ProtonMail contacts with the phone's address book has been around for nearly eight years, and yet Proton still hasn’t provided a proper solution or update. For a company that emphasizes privacy and usability, it's surprising that such a fundamental feature is still missing. Two-way sync between ProtonMail and native contact apps should be a basic expectation by now.

I agree with many of the other comments, it would be nice to know how the status of this feature is and for when it is planned.
