Dynamic filter creation
It would be extremely convenient to be able to automatically add an email address to an existing filter as follows:
- User has some folders setup already
- User drags a new email from friend@somewhere.com into folder "friends"
- Small dialog pops up to ask if you would like to add this email address to the filter(s) that send to the "friends" folder.
To make this simpler, you could have a default filter per folder, and this dialog would simply add the dragged email's address to that filter. It would then be simpler to check if this email is already part of the filter.
A small improvement but it would make setting up and keeping things organised very much easier.

Totally agree!! it’s shockingly time-consuming to manage filters right now. Having to manually copy the sender, go to a completely separate settings page, and edit raw Sieve code just to update an existing filter feels ancient. For a modern, privacy-focused service like Proton, this kind of friction really stands out.

Please prioritize this. Long, long, long overdue.

Yes this would be fantastic, to add an email to an existing filter right from the email itself, Thank you!

This in combination with retention rules per folder/tag would be a awesome!
A way to filter by tag would also be nice. -

Yup this is what I am constantly having to do manually.
From the address or subject you should have an option to "add to filter" instead of just create a new one.
Assuming of course its easier for proton to have a few large filters instead of 100 individual ones, this should be a priority for them from a computing perspective.

The user journey: I have a "promo" folder. I want to be able to filter a sender to promo easily and automatically move all conversations from that sender to the promo folder easily. This could be a one click filter or a drag and drop with a "do this for all conversations?" link in the bottom. Right now it takes me many clicks and typing a rule name to do this, and I end up with N rules just to filter promo messages.

I'm new to Proton. As I'm setting things up I noticed this issue right away.
Looking in the forum here, I notice this was brought up a long while ago. But still hasn't seemed to be addressed.
Does anyone know if there are plans to update this feature?
It really is terribly inefficient and frustrating. -

While the process does not need to be exactly as described in the original post, I was extremely surprised to discover I could easily add a new email address to an existing filter. My expectation was that when I clicked "filter" on a single email address I would be able to select one of my named filters from a dropdown list. Honestly, had I thought it was possible an email program *didn't* have this simple feature, I would have looked for it before migrating over and possibly chosen a different email program.

I've just switched to Proton and anticipate this already being an issue if I just create hundreds of filters for each sender's address.
I manually copy their address and navigate to the 'Filters' page to add them to an existing filter (typically the filter is named after the label / folder I want to send it to).
The existing "Always label sender's emails" option (when labelling an email) would work if it meant "Add this sender to your existing [label] filter" but unfortunately it actually means "Create yet another sender-specific filter"

It would be useful to add properties of an open email (such as sender, subject, etc) to an existing filter without having to go into settings. This is so that it makes it less tedious to edit filters with any forgotten criteria.

Just getting to the existing filters to edit them requires far too many clicks. Improving that would help a lot. (Not to mention supporting this on iOS as well.)

This is the biggest drag on efficiency today in the protonmail platform.

This is the one thing keeping me from moving everything over to Proton permanently.

I often have to open multiple tabs, go through each new filter I created, and then merge them. It is unnecessary since you already know what filters exist, and you can't have two filters with the same name, an error I often run into. I have spam, X spam, junk, x junk, spam 2, etc.

Yeah, I want to be able to add to an existing filter way more quickly. Even an existing filter button on the main window would be helpful.

Please add this - having to manage so many filters for individual emails is silly if they're all the same thing!!

To add to this, the ability to manage filters on the mobile android app. As well, the ability to jump to filter management as an option in the "inbox" section, without having to navigate to "settings" 1st.

This would make my workflows so much more easy, from an existing email, adding the sender (or adresses) to specific filters without having to go through whole motion of settings->filters->select filter->edit->add->next->next-> save ...
