Minimize desktop app to system tray
Ability to minimize Proton Mail Desktop app to the system tray (notification area) to keep it from taking up space on the taskbar.
Icon in notification should show unread message count.

Absolutely vital, would make me switch to the client permanently.

I'd love to have this feature to be perfectly honest ... I mean since other apps from your suite (Pass and VPN to be exact) have that option, why not mail

I'm still waiting for proton to add this feature. It would improve the user experience tenfold. I hope they can do it soon because it seems like a lot of people are feeling the same way.

It's crazy that ElectronMail (the unofficial ProtonMail Desktop App) has had this feature for years and Proton still hasn't implemented it.

It's been over a year and we're still waiting.

If this feature came I would make protonmail my primary email application. Now I'm stuck with Thunderbird to get notifications.

The same is true for Proton Bridge. With MacOS, the app "Autostarter" can provide the minimize feature that Proton Mail (or Bridge) does not have.

I don't intend to come off as judgemental, or whiny, but I've been on a 2 year biling cycle and recently updated my subscription from Proton Unlimited to Proton Family so I could manage email for custom domains we have. I have to admit that after installing the desktop app and not finding the "start to tray", "close to tray", etc. options, I was a bit disappointed.
This feature seems quite standard for desktop clients, without it the app is essentially just a sandboxed web browser.

Please add this feature.

Please please please stop forcing us to use the bridge app for other clients just to have this feature.

To echo others, this is a basic feature that needs to be added.

The lack of this feature is a deal breaker for me. Developers, PLEASE add this

I'm not overly fond of bridging with Thunderbird as it is very laggy, having the ability to have Proton Mail running in the background via the System Tray would be a very helpful feature to keep receiving notifications whilst having more space free in my task bar.

Again, you (Proton) expect $100 a year, but, you lack this feature and many other BASIC features to your desktop app. Another feature needed is the ability to minimize desktop app to tray by using the CLOSE (X) icon. Appears I wont be using $10 a month option until there are many improvements made.

Agree with the rest here. The main incentive/expectation for those downloading a desktop app is this 'basic functionality', as some are calling it.
Best case, the app should have options to be a startup app, have icon badge notifications, and minimize to tray on close. This would give it parity with other mailing / messaging desktop apps, or even just the actual proton mobile app.
At absolute minimum though it really should minimize to tray. Otherwise desktop notifications are functionally broken for users who like to keep their taskbar clean, like myself :)

This function needs to be made for obvious reasons.

It would also be great to be able to have the desktop app opening at PC start up and minimize automatically to system tray.

We really need this implemented. I'm not sure how this was missed before the first release.

The (WINDOWS) Protonmail App is a step forward, but desperately needs to:
have an option to minimize to the TRAY when closing
Clicking the Notification in Windows 11, does NOTHING, it should bring the app and the message to the forefront.
The option to change the interval for checking new mail, from REAL TIME to 5 minute intervals
