Suggestion : only contacts that we have previously selected in the app will show up as a new message alert. So when the app shows "2" for example, it means 2 new messages - but only from contacts selected by us as important. Other new messages (newsletters & other) will only be visible when we open the app. So this is a 'minimum distractions' mode, where new messages don't show on the icon outside of the app, except from those we previously selected as important. The MD mode saves time as you don't open the app for "just anything" that comes in, when in MD mode.
