Proton Address Book - NOT just a list synced with eg. Google Address Book
I know there is an idea that has been marked as planned. But how long should it be planned? That idea with the name "Sync contacts with phone address book" also has a year on it: 2019. That is WAY to long to keep it in planning!
When I signed up for a paid plan, there was no indication that Proton Mail don't really have an address book. Here is what I expect:
It has to be a standalone address book that shows up like that in my phone. That is the only way I can set my phone to register new contacts in the Proton Address book. It is absolutely not interesting to first add them to Google contacts and then have Proton sync with that!
The contact list/address book is one of the most valuable things we have. If you lose your contacts, you might have to use many years to build it up again. And in the process, you will lose a lot of opportunities/business deals.
In addition, and this is an absolute must: The Proton address book must support ALL features of the Google address book. That means unlimited fields and custom fields. ALL my info must carry over. And then I will delete all my contacts in Google.
The Proton Address Book must be the best on the planet.
The Proton Address Book should be the only address book you need on your phone.
Unfortunately, this means that some amount of data needs to be available to other apps. Signal, Whatsapp and a few others. But the default should be that an app has to ask for permission and you can approve or deny - mostly deny :-)
This feature is critical.
Proton is way past the point where it can sell solely on the security. For me, security is nice, for some it can be life and death. But once you have signed up, you start looking around and realize that it is somewhat half baked and you start missing features you used to have.
So here is an additional message to Proton from a paying customer:
Your security is good enough for now. Give me the missing features.
