2. Desktop client: improve startup and tray options

   The desktop client lacks a proper option to start automatically with the system. I can add it manually to startup, but then the app opens normally instead of minimized.

   It would be great to have these options:
   Start minimized.
   Show or hide in the tray.
   Minimize to tray or taskbar.

   This is essential because many devs end up with both tray and taskbar icons unnecessarily. I usually minimize to the taskbar, but when I close an app it still runs in the tray in the background.

   Alternatively, please provide launch keys/flags so I can create my own startup shortcut with these behaviors.

4. Edit public holidays

   Please consider allowing one to edit public holidays that are imported for a particular country, e.g. delete a regional public holiday that is not relevant to the user because they live in a different part of the country. Currently you cannot delete any public holidays. It will help to reduce calendar clutter. Thank you for considering!

5. Right-click context menu option to search all emails from the same sender

   Gmail offers a simple right-click (or long-press) context menu on any email that includes an option like "Search mail from [sender@example.com]". This instantly filters the inbox to show all messages from that sender — no manual search query needed.

   I'd love to see Proton Mail add the same UX pattern:
   - Right-click any email in the message list
   - A context menu option appears: "Show all emails from [sender]"
   - Clicking it runs an automatic search filtered to that sender's address

   This is a huge quality-of-life improvement for power users who manage high-volume inboxes, hunt down subscriptions, or quickly audit communication with a specific contact. It saves multiple steps and makes Proton feel just as fluid as Gmail for everyday triage.

7. Standalone app for Proton Calendar on macOS

   It would be nice to have a standalone app for Proton Calendar on macOS, similar to Apple's Calendar. It would also be good to have a widget similar to Apple's Calendar widget where you can get a glance of the month you are in. With this way you don't have to open the app. I currently use the Apple's Calendar but if I had a standalone app for Proton Calendar on macOS, I would have used it.

8. Simple feature request: Have you included any attachments you wanted to attach? reminder popup on specific email keyword

   I just sent an email that included the text "I attached a photo of it" to a client, but i ended up forgetting to attach the photo attachment. In gmail it will remind you if you have the keyword "attachment" in your email when pressing send. I'd like that gmail feature to be in Proton too. This request is just a simple regex and warning message on pressing send for either the keyword "attachment" or a key phrase in this string of text: "I attached a photo of it" when there is no attachment attached to the email.

   The email i sent was an HTML email but still that shouldn't weaken this detection.

10. standard calendar ios

    I can't select proton calendar as my standard calendar when I create events. For instance if I get a text with a reminder for something that includes the date and time, I can press this and IOS will enable me to create an event on this time. But here I can only select standard iphone calendar or a google calendar. Proton calendar does not show as an option. This is a higly used feature for me, and it would be great to get this option for Proton as well. Thanks for all your great work!

11. Shred message(s), for immediate deletion without going through the trash

    Sometimes I get transient emails, like notifications from services that I don't want cluttering up the trash. I'd love an option to manually shred them (maybe option + delete button), and as an action in the filters. You can add additional guardrails ("are you sure), just allow me to ultimately turn them off

12. Per-event free/busy status toggle in Proton Calendar (essential for appointment scheduling)

    Currently, Proton Calendar only allows busy/free status sharing as an all-or-nothing, calendar-level setting. There is no way to mark individual events as "free" or "busy" on a per-event basis — a feature that exists in Google Calendar, Outlook, and most major calendar applications.

    This limitation creates a significant functional gap in Proton Calendar's appointment scheduling feature.

    The Problem:
    When a user creates a public booking page, Proton Calendar determines available slots based on whether any event exists on the calendar at a given time. Without per-event free/busy control, this leads to inaccurate availability representation:

    Scenario 1 — Over-blocking: A user has a personal commitment (e.g., gym, lunch, flexible errand) that they'd be willing to reschedule if a client needs that time slot. Because it appears as an event on the calendar, the booking page marks that time as unavailable — even though the user would accept a booking there. The only workaround is deleting the event entirely, losing the reminder and context.

    Scenario 2 — Under-blocking: A user wants to reserve "focus time" or hold tentative blocks without making them hard commitments, but still allow trusted colleagues to book over them if urgent. Currently there's no way to mark these as "free" while keeping them visible on the calendar.

    What's Needed - Add a per-event toggle in the event creation/editing dialog — similar to Google Calendar's "Show as: Busy / Free" dropdown — that allows users to:

    1. Mark individual events as "Free" so they don't block availability on booking pages or shared busy status, while still appearing on the user's own calendar for reference

    2. Mark individual events as "Busy" so they do block availability (default behavior)

    3. Optionally support additional statuses (Tentative, Out of Office) for even more nuanced scheduling

    Why This Matters:

    1. Appointment scheduling is less useful without it. Real-life schedules include flexible, movable, or low-priority commitments. Without per-event control, booking pages can't accurately reflect a user's true availability.

    2. Privacy-conscious professionals need this. Many Proton users are freelancers, consultants, therapists, lawyers, or small business owners who blend personal and professional calendars. Per-event free/busy control is essential for managing that blend without compromising privacy or convenience.

    3. Competitors already offer this. Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar, and Fastmail all support per-event free/busy status. Proton Calendar should match this baseline functionality to be a viable alternative.

    Use Cases:
    - A consultant blocks a lunch break but would move it for a paying client
    - A therapist holds tentative appointment slots that may open up
    - A freelancer marks gym time as "free" so booking pages show availability
    - A team lead reserves focus time but allows override for urgent meetings

    Please add per-event free/busy status control to Proton Calendar — it would significantly improve both the core calendar experience and the appointment scheduling workflow.

13. Proton Mail and Calendar Bridge for iOS

    My work HIPAA compliant encrypted email through Microsoft exchange works with apple's mail and calendar apps, so I don't necessarily understand why that couldn't be the same for Proton, especially if it just works through a device management profile like how desktop proton bridge works for the apple mail app.

    I am not asking this because I think there's something inherently wrong with the Proton mobile apps, I am asking because I would like one app where I can view all of my inboxes together (same for calendar). I personally have my personal proton mail inboxes as well as Microsoft exchange inboxes for work and for school, and a lesser used iCloud email address, and a google account created with my proton mail email so that family who uses Google Calendar can share their google calendars with me without having to make their calendars public. I prefer the apple mail and calendar apps because they allow me to view all of these calendars and inboxes together, regrettably except my proton mail account.

    When not using in full screen, the From column get narrow and culls a lot of the info while in full screen, it will still not expand enough to show the entire length of some From information while the Subject column has tons of empty space to spare

16. Resize New Message/Composer Window

    Allow the user to resize and position the new message window. You can do this in Apple Mail. You resize and position it once and then it opens that way from then on. Composer/Normal is too small and too far to the right. Composer/Maximized is too big and too far to the left. Or add a third Composer medium/center option.

    Also when you minimze the mail window the new message window should be there so you can more easily drag and drop photos and documents from your desktop into the message. (It works this way in Apple Mail.)

18. Add an option to disable automatic “Mark as read”

    Please add a setting to Proton Mail’s desktop and web apps that allows users to choose when a message is marked as read:

    Immediately when opened

    After a configurable delay

    Only when manually marked as read

    I use Proton Mail Bridge with Thunderbird and have disabled Thunderbird’s automatic “Mark as read” behavior. Thunderbird correctly keeps opened messages unread, but opening one in Proton Mail immediately changes the shared read status and synchronizes that change back through Bridge.

    A manual-only option would support workflows where “unread” means the message still requires attention. The existing automatic behavior could remain the default.

    Arrow that will appear and allow to download attachment as file directly from the list without the need to open email and scroll down. Useful when for example downloading invoices from a bunch of incoming emails.
