Disable VPN when on trusted Wifi Connections
I love ProtonVPN. I use it on my Android phone, and have it installed on my home router to protect all my devices on my home network. When I connect my Android phone to my home wifi network, I would love for my ProtonVPN app to sense the new connection and disconnect it on my phone--so that I only use the mobile app when I'm out in the world on 4G/5G and public wifi connections.

I was dumbfounded as to why I couldn't connect to local network resources when I had "LAN connections" enabled and tried every permutation of split tunneling with local IP's and apps that use local resources excluded from VPN. Also tried disabling NetShield until I realized that the Always on & kill switch was preventing local access. Not sure why local network access and kill switch/always on are mutually exclusive. They aren't on any other VPN provider app that I've ever used.

Currently Proton VPN for Android just allows always on or off connections. When on a VPN connected wifi network, it doesn't need to be on.
Either allow VPN to be off for certain Wifi connections or allow VPN to be on always for just mobile connections. -

This is an exact situation I've come across. When I get home, for example, I cannot connect to my Chromecast unless I turn off parts of my ProtonVPN. I'd like the ability to setup location rules or something that is automatic so I don't have to constantly manually change settings.

Yes, this is a feature that I really like with NordVPN. Please include with ProtonVPN because I already have ProtonVPN on my router protecting my household devices. Don't need a double VPN when my phone is at home.

Hopefully this feature will come fast to ProtonVPN. Still use NordVPN because of absence

It would be exceedingly useful for me to have this feature. Being able to whitelist networks to disable the VPN on, whilst having any that I do not explicitly trust run with the VPN automatically would be a huge boost to privacy, battery and usability of pVPN.

The ability to have always-on VPN is great, however, there are times when this is might not be wanted. For example, on a home network, or when connected to a personal cellular hotspot, it might not be necessary to have the VPN active.
The feature I would like to see in Proton VPN is the ability to add Wi-Fi Networks to an exclusion list for the Always On VPN. Most basic scenario is "Proton VPN enabled on all networks except my home, personal network".

This would be tremendously useful since I use an internal DNS server on my home network.

I am a proton user since last 18 months. I am eagerly waiting for this feature so that, I dont have to enable the vpn when I leave my home(where I have installed proton vpn on my router).
Is there any workaround till this feature is implemented by proton team?

Proton VPN really needs this feature.

Hi Proton team. This is a highly important feature for conserving battery.
Why are you not adding features like this?

This would be excellent

This is a really important feature. I currently have NordVPN where the VPN connection is permanently active on my wi-fi (LAN) because it's running on the router. The NordVPN iOS app allows you to whitelist specific wi-fi connections that disable VPN, so I have my home wi-fi on the whitelist. That way NordVPN *automatically* connects to the VPN on my iPhone every time I leave my house, and then *automatically* disconnects on my iPhone every time I re-connect to my home wi-fi.
Would love to see ProtonVPN implement this feature as well. For me it's the one key feature I need before I switch over from NordVPN.

I went back to NordVPN temporarily until this is implemented. Still have ProtonMail and didn't want to leave ProtonVPN, but it's just a pain to have to do it manually AND make sure you have everything re-enabled when you leave your trusted WiFi. I would leave it running all the time, including when I'm at home, but I cannot connect to my HomeKit cameras with the VPN running.
