Maintain 'Open' or 'Moderate' NAT Type While Port Forwarding for Enhanced Multiplayer Gaming Experience"
Why does enabling port forwarding change the NAT type from "Moderate" to "Strict"? It should either be "Open" or remain "Moderate." This distinction is crucial for many online P2P multiplayer games, such as GTA Online & many more, where a "Strict" NAT type severely hampers multiplayer functionality.
I hope that in the future, Proton VPN can address this issue, allowing users to achieve an "Open" or "Moderate" NAT type while port forwarding is enabled.
I hope this concern is taken seriously. Thank you.

ran into the same thing: when you enable port forwarding in proton vpn, NAT in games immediately goes strict, and in gta online after that it’s way harder to get into sessions and matchmaking gets worse. would be nice if port forwarding at least kept it at moderate, or if there was a separate mode with normal udp for p2p without forced “symmetric” nat. would be useful to see an official explanation of exactly which server-side settings switch this and if it’s possible to have a choice. while I was looking into this, chats and “guides” kept spamming weird links like https://cashorcrashgame.org/, https://playdragontiger.org/, and https://crazytimeonline.org/ — and that just distracts from the real nat problem. hope you fix this, because for multiplayer, port forwarding right now is having the opposite effect.
