  1. All desktop proton apps, including mail, disk, and vpn, should be protected with a passphrase, just like on mobile devices!

Currently, your computer can be hacked, you know nothing about it, and yet your most precious things are all exposed for the want of this single, simple pin-access feature in all Proton desktop apps!

Guys, that's the basic security, isn't it? Major secure chat communicators have it - telegram has it, session has it, why Proton doesn't have it?! It's high time to implement it! I would suggest starting from proton mail and proton disk as the most critical-data from the user security standpoint.

  2. Proton VPN ARM

Create a version of ProtonVPN that supports and is optimized for ARM64 based systems, that for example run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips. As of right now, the ProtonVPN app cannot connect to any servers in the ProtonVPN app, this suggests that the drivers for the "connection card" in these systems are different and need to be specifically utilized to work.

  3. Show VPN server hostname/IP and its providers

I suggest adding detailed VPN server specifications, including hostname/IP and provider information, to make it easier for users to select servers based on individual preferences. This additional information would provide more transparency and control, enhancing the user experience.

  4. Detect DNS leak and warn ProtonVPN users

An encrypted DNS (Called DoH - DNS over https) is said by you (in the later linked article) to "prevents our software from being able to see the DNS queries. This makes it very hard to block or reroute them."
causing DNS leak, which can be considered a serious privacy compromise IMO.

    https://ipleak.net

It seems to be too severe not to warn user about it in case it is doable from the side of your application. I guess your app tries to read the DNS request and if is encrypted, it fails and can do some action, like displaying…

  5. Reconnect to next best server

Occasionally I have a slow connection to the "optimal" server or the quality of the connection changes overtime. I would love a single click button to connect to the next best server and not automatically reconnect to the one I was just connected to like it does when I manually cycle it.

  7. Favorite Servers- Mark Favorite

We want to mark some servers as favorite...

Scenario: If I'm connecting to Fastest Country and my favorite server is in the array, it would be my preferred connection.

If we could mark servers as favorite, we would be able to see a list of those favorite servers with sorting, etc.

  8. VPN per site

It would be nice to add a feature to browser extension that would allow to set up different VPN countries (or lack of VPN) per site. This is (or at least was) possible in Zenmate.

  9. Use Hardware / Security Key as 2FA

Allow Hardware Security Keys (FIDO2 like YubiKey) as a backup 2FA for ProtonVPN (like all the other Proton Services). Currently Proton VPN only supports TOTP authenticators for 2FA which is inconvenient especially when all the other Proton services work fine with security keys.

  11. Device status indicator (how many out of 10 are in use)

Its annoying that their is no overview of how many devices your using out of the 10 allowed.
Also, it would be nice to be able to name your devices if this feature is added.

  12. Show city in UI (top right)

I've noticed (top right of UI) that ProtonVPN displays location-based information i.e. the country, server, and IP address only, it currently does not include the current city. Adding this piece of information could significantly improve the functionality.

  14. Support for LibreELEC (either an addon for Kodi or a comprehensive guide to set up OpenVPN on it)

A thing that I really, really would like to have is the possibility to use Proton VPN on my Raspberry Pi 5 with LibreELEC on it.

After downloading the Zomboided addon for Kodi ( https://github.com/Zomboided/service.vpn.manager ) and using a script to solve the missing update-resolv-conf issue ( https://github.com/RamSailopal/resolvconf ), I managed to connect to your paid servers with my credentials, but while the IP address is ok I still get a DNS leak and I don't know how to fix it. I tried various things but nothing worked yet.

The best solution would be a Kodi Proton VPN add-on or…

  15. Settings

Ability to transfer settings. For example, if I have ProtonVPN installed on one phone then want to switch to another phone or upgrade the phone, I want the ability for all or some of the settings from my previous phone to transfer over instead of manually having to configure each and every setting every time. This is especially important for excluded apps that requires tedious time and effort to go through a long list of apps.

  16. Techniques for Circumventing Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)

    Techniques for Circumventing DPI

Several techniques can be used to evade DPI. These strategies focus on confusing the DPI system or breaking its detection algorithms. Common methods include packet fragmentation, protocol obfuscation, injection of fake packets, and manipulation of Time-to-Live (TTL) values. Each method’s theory and practical application are discussed below.

  17. Random auto re-connects

Add a feature in the options you can toggle on/off to allow your VPN app to randomly reconnect to a new connection after a random amount of time.
Never the same amount of time. Could be 71mins, 7hrs42mins, 17hrs1min etc...
    Keeping your signature even lower.

  19. Block Malware by maintained database (not just dns)

To my understanding you now only block malware based on dns. I would think it would be very nice if also ip addresses of bad actors would get blocked by using realtime databases of such attackers.
