Graphene Apps
It would be nice to have native versions of the apps on Graphine OS, as it's security focused too. I think the only way to install them there at the moment is in a sandboxed mode, but I haven't tried because there are a few things like password management I want to retain functionality of before I make the steps to de-google. Going through the process of flashing my phone to Graphene, only to find the Proton apps aren't able to function would stop me from going that direction for the moment.

Anything in the Play Store has google's libraries in it. The right way to do this is to avoid Google Play altogether by making the apk's available through a FOSS app store. For GOS, that would be Accrescent, F-Droid, or either Github or ProtonApps.com through Obtainium. See multiple requests in this vein, here:

Proton apps work flawlessly on GrapheneOS, regardless of whether they're downloaded from the Play Store, Aurora Store, or F-Droid/Obtainium. You can check user reviews of app compatibility on ROMs on Plexus: https://plexus.techlore.tech/apps?q=proton

What password manager are you using?
Keepass, bitwarden, enpass, etc work fine on GrapheneOS
The most of what Proton uses GSF for is for notifications.
Which, hopefully, GrapheneOS finds a way for a built-in solution or there is greater use of NTFY app. We don't want each app having their own notification function, would destroy performance and battery life.

I realize it's possible to download some of them and run in sandbox mode, but it's unclear if password management integration is possible without Play Services.
