In other words, allow contacts with phone numbers only to also be able to be put into groups

A large percentage of my contacts do not have an email address. Since they don't have email addresses, I cannot put them in groups.

I imagine this might have to wait for a standalone contacts app (PLEASE) but one workaround might be searching for tags or text, but that isn't supported either.

I really need to move my contacts off icloud, but I really need groups to do that.

It does not seem that one can add contacts to groups if the contact has not yet had an email address associated with it. Contacts should be able to be added to groups regardless of what type of contact information one has for that contact, which might not be an email address in every case.

Yes!! I tried to import my contacts from phone but none were actually imported because none have an email address.

You can manually create contacts without email, but even then you cannot really do anything with them.

I would like to add contacts to calendar events, even when they do not have an email. I want to save that information to myself and do not need to notify the other persons, if that is what happens when you add contacts (i guess that is what it does but never used it yet). Contacts with email should be able to be opped out of notifying them.

Please edit the groups in the contacts so I can connect the group to the contact without email
