Configure spellchecker language in desktop app
In a browser, Proton Mail benefits from the browser functions to spell check. In the new Proton Mail installed application, the language cannot be configured or I do not know how to do it...
It would be very useful to be able to configure the spell checker language for people that are writing in a language that is different than the OS language used.
Thank You

“This would be a really helpful feature. The desktop app should definitely allow users to set a custom spell-checker language, especially for those who write in multiple languages. I often cover similar usability issues on my website, and small options like this can make a big difference in productivity and user comfort. for more info visit here: https://mincraftapk.com/

That’s actually a very thoughtful point — having smoother and faster access to reliable streaming tools can completely change the user experience. Small improvements in usability really matter when people want quick and hassle-free entertainment. For me, I often depend on https://inat-boxs.com.tr/
because it consistently provides stable downloads, updated resources, and easy-to-follow guides. Just like any flexible and user-centered platform, it shows how important simplicity and reliability are in creating a better experience overall. -

I completely agree — having the ability to manually configure the spell-checker language in the Proton Mail desktop app would be extremely useful. Many users write emails in multiple languages, and relying only on the OS language creates unnecessary limitations. A built-in language selector (similar to what browsers use) would make the app much more flexible and user-friendly.
For users who manage productivity tools and digital workflows, I often recommend checking resources like

Email is primarily a text-based communication tool, so clarity and accuracy in writing are essential. Security means little if the message itself is poorly communicated.

Yes please! My system is set to English but most of my mails I type in my native language and everything has an annoying red underline.

That’s a great suggestion — having configurable spellchecker language in the Proton desktop app would make it much more user-friendly for multilingual users. Small usability improvements like this really enhance the overall experience. For me, I also rely on https://arena4viewer.site/
for a smooth and accessible streaming experience, and the same principle applies: flexibility matters. -

My proton-mail is my private mail-account. I am danish so all my mail from my proton-account goes to Danes. But I get red lines under all my text in my mails very very annoying and completely useless. Spell-checking locale languages and the ability to change language has been basic feature in even strange text editors for programmers for the last 25 years.
More than a year ago you got a link from another user on Redit to the turtorial on Electron showing how to add the feature. It doesn't look like rocket science to me.
Reposting the link for you convience
https://www.electronjs.org/docs/latest/tutorial/spellchecker/Please add it soon
Thank you

Being able to spellcheck in multiple languages is very important. I regularly communicate with clients and friends in languages other than English. I have the keyboards set on my computer and can spellcheck in all of them in Word and other apps but Protonmail seems to ignore the language I have set for my keyboard. I've been having to copy and paste the message into a Word document to spellcheck and then paste it back into Protonmail before I send if I want to spellcheck it.

Until this is fixed, you can disable the spell checking with this hack: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonMail/comments/1bhm2am/comment/mcp2m5e/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

It goes a little deeper than that. I speak, and write emails, in several languages - not just in the language of the interface. Aside from that - regardless of the interface language I chose for the app, the spell-checker only works for English.

It's a very interesting feature; not everyone writes English in the world. Just like this website https://themagistv.co

I am going to find a mail client that doesn't put a red line under everything I write in Icelandic. It's very annoying.

I can only agree. It is a pain in the... that everything I write in German is marked as spelling mistakes by the proton mail desktop app, since my proton account is set to English.
I'd love this feature to be included soon!
