Proton Pay: Safe and secure payment processor as alternative for Gpay/ApplePay
Hello Dev-Team,
I'm not happy with the limitation to big-data collectors when I want to use my smartphone for payments in the supermarket.
Is there a way to tamper the payment or develop an own payment processing system?

It would be great if Proton created a payment system similar to Google Pay and Apple Pay. I’m trying to de‑Google myself, but that feature is important to me because of its security benefits.
The downside is the privacy concerns, which is where Proton could truly shine. An alternative payment system from Proton could be used on private ROMs such as Graphene OS.

It would be a nice addition to Proton Wallet. But privacy with real money wouldn't be possible due to, Governments, Mastercard, Visa, Every bank ever, etc.

Safe and secure is definitely possible. Private, no. This article helps explain why the big names in the game basically cannot be touched, why you cannot have private payments that interact with bank, and why companies cannot willy nilly become payment processors (more accurately, PayFacs)

I'm not sure how 'privacy' could work due to KYC and various laws but I'd feel much better using Proton Pay rather than Google/Apple having my data.

If you're looking for an alternative that doesn’t rely on big-data ecosystems like GPay or ApplePay, it might be worth checking out other processors built with privacy and flexibility in mind. One option to learn more about PayKassma — https://paykassma.com/ - an innovative online payment company that’s been offering secure and fast financial transactions since 2019. It supports multiple payment methods and serves over 4 billion users globally, making it a strong foundation if you're thinking of building or integrating your own system.

I like the idea of @Mike. From my perspective it is not critical. It could be 3rd project after building up the basics features of Proton-Environment-System.

I have security on almost anything I own, purely out of the pursuit of being more private (which is getting harder every day). I would love this idea to be a reality. Having a Google Pay or Apple Pay app on your phone Proton Pay? Digital wallet for fiat currencies that can utilize NFC to do contactless payments. Whether there is a privacy respecting way to do this, I am not sure. There's my idea. Thanks a lot over the years Proton Team!

I feel like proton’s financial focus is on crypto and not privacy respecting crypto either after seeing how proton wallet is bitcoin only

I would really love this. Apple Pay is super convenient and having a real, private alternative would be great.

As long as Monero or Bitcoin aren't accepted in my local grocery Store or online Shops, digital payments are the greatest issue in concerns of privacy for my privacy model.

Not sure if it can be done due to registrations, but having something disguise what the payment is and just show as a proton charge.
I know there have been many banks and visa amount others trying to have special charge codes and deny charges connected to firearms specifically. That will eventually branch to whatever they say is "bad". -

I'd love to see the function added to Proton Pass, and make the debit and creditcards there function to pay in stores.
