Account Lockdown
Sometimes we do our best to secure our private information and data - this could be by using ProtonPass to store emails and passwords or ProtonMail for secure communication.
Despite this, things can go wrong and in some cases, do go wrong. There are various ways third-parties can attempt to access our account to get the vital information we store, so what happens when they do?
Maybe an ex-partner found out your password or you fall victim to a phishing attack; your data exposed, computer maybe hacked - you may not realise it, but at any second someone could access your account.
Regardless of how they have got access, your main goal at that point is to secure your account. Terminate all session (except active one) change password, backup information etc.
Time is of the essence…..but you have to log into Proton via web browser. Input your password, maybe you have a security key (spare stolen) or use 2fa (its own source compromised) time is moving on and you haven’t even loaded in yet. What are you to do? How do you know what had been read, what account do you start reviewing?
I propose “Proton Account Lockdown” or “Proton Emergency Lock”
A shortcut powered by one of the proton apps, perhaps in widget form.
If you get that dreadded message of a new login, which you did not do, you simply press the widget.
This start an automated process which “locks down” your account; all sessions logged out, emergency message sent to your email, backup email and phone number.
Only your current session, or if you are using a PC, tablet or mobile device, your device-only sessions remain logged in.
If on mobile and you had this setting, you could choose what Proton apps stay logged in on your current device.
To regain access you have to use your chosen option (Securty key, backup code, 2FA)
This instant (almost) response saves precious time, allowing you more time to secure your data and information.
